Hello. Last night, I tried WILD. I chose to count. I counted 1 - I’m dreaming, 2 - I’m dreaming etc for every breath I took. And, around 100 somewhere, my breaths just went lower and lower. I didn’t breathe softer or so, I just couldn’t hear my breath as good anymore. I got all excited. It stayed like this for a while, and I just kept counting, but when I reached 120 or something, I could hear myself breathing again! I kept counting, but I lost it at about 200 and fell asleep. What was that? What should I do?
And, another question: when I try WILD, I often find my mind wander off, thinking on other things. Even if I softly bring my mind back on WILD, it always ends with my mind wander off, and at the end I can’t realize it, and I fall to sleep. How can I stop my mind from wandering off without me noticing it?
Falling asleep is most common when WILDing. You can’t really do anything about it except try to stay awake. I find counting really boring and it even makes me fall asleep faster. What I do is just keep myself occupied. I keep thinking about stuff. Its not really the COUNTING that makes you WILD, it’s keeping your MIND awake. Just thinking keeps your mind awake.
Think about random stuff. Girls. Guys maybe. Lucid Dreams? That kind of stuff. Just keep thinking and thinking and thinking, non stop until you have WILDed.
IMO, this could work for some days, then you’ll just take the bad habit of thinking randomly before falling asleep or having insomnia. I don’t really like this.
There is nothing you can do. It’s a good thing that you felt asleep. Sometimes, the opposite happens, people focus too much and get insomnia. You have to find the balance between focusing and falling asleep.
The same problem occurs for everybody. Don’t worry and just focus back on counting when you notice your mind wandering.
Actually, I find that thinking randomly, just letting my thoughts wander where ever they please is the only way I can get to sleep.
If I try to empty my mind or think about falling asleep or walking down stairs and anything like that… nothing happens. I just stay awake.
I can’t ensure my tip works cause I’ve never succesfully WILDed neither. It’s just a very strong impression from my experience. It would be great that a good WILD’er says what he thinks about.
Hahahaha Indeed, I think (us being both non-succesful WILDers) that a “professional” WILDer should come in here and answer his question. The thing is though, most of the “Profs” in LDs are DILDers since they have either mastered willpowering themself an LD or have refined a technique that works so well for themselves that works every time. >.< (Or theyre just WBTB whores )
I haven’t tried to think about other stuff… But, I mean, that’s what I do regulary when I go to bed, without doing WILD so I think I’ll just fall asleep normal that way.
And what was the thing with me hearing my breaths lower?
Try VILD or MILD, instead of just thinking about normal stuff before bed.
About your hearing, I think it’s because you were falling asleep, and the parts of your brain that deal with your senses were shutting down for the night. I’m sure Basilus can give you the details on that.
Lol! I think your explanation is good. You can observe this too by hearing an external sound, like a clock tick. When you fall asleep, you suddenly hear it no more cause the brain inhibits afferent terminals (endings of the sensory nerves that connect with neurons).
