Last night I decided to have my first attempt at WILD, after reading up on it for about an hour I thought I could at least give it a good attempt, so I get into bed I get as comfortable as possible, lying in silence.
After about a minute I start to see random colours, not very colourful, I’d call the most common colour a metallic beije, but I did get the occasional blue and red which was nice, then I heard a slight ringing at one point. I was lying in bed for about an hour then I gave up. I got an occasional spasm and I thought this might be the jolts or vibrations that people often describe but I’d say it was just a result of tiredness.
Did I show any common signs of a WILD on course to being successful?
Also, I had a fan on low for half of it, does sound actually matter, does it have to be really silent?
Thanks in advance to the potential repliers,
Alecto early in the morning
From what I understand, you just relaxed and didn’t really practice any technique, like counting, etc.?
If it’s the case, it’s obviously the reason why you didn’t have very good results. The random colours are called phosphenes, the slight ringing is certainly tinnitus. About the occasional spasms, it depends on when they happen. Sometimes it’s because you’re falling asleep but in your case, it seems it’s because of a bad relaxation.
Thus I’ve the feeling that you didn’t reach the hypnagogic state.
You should read the recent relaxation technique which was posted on this very subforum, try it (or any relaxation technique) and when you’re well relaxed, you focus on one practice like counting or repeating a sentence, etc. If you don’t, your thoughts will just go here and there and there will be no results.
Oh no sorry I left out the counting part, I was couting from 1-100 and 100 back to 1 for most of it, then after that I tried to simple adding sums like I read to do somewhere, thanks for your reply
For future times, can someone tell me what would be the next stage and what it feels/looks/sounds like?
And also, am I doing something really wrong or is it just a matter of practice?
Seeing the colors means youre body is at least getting ready to fall asleep, so try to just watch them passively. its a good way to relax your body while keeping your mind awake. dont look and expect pictures and say “WOAH THAT wONE LOOKED LIKEA CAT WOW WOW”
just watch them. like fireworks. or a rippling lake.
Next stage is hypnagogic stage.
I’m talking about this here:

I don’t think you’re doing something wrong, it’s a matter of practice. Now some people reach this easily, and for some others it’s very difficult. It seems that only 50% manage to WILD.
