WILDing stops me sleeping.

I’ve tried WILDing quite a lot. Sometimes with the 5-6 hours of sleep, sometimes without. But my problem is that everytime I try to WILD, I never fall asleep.
I’ve never experienced HI, apart from one noise I’m not too sure was real or HI. I’ve never got SP either, I just get a little numb, like when you sit still for too long.
I always roll over and give up, only to fall asleep normaly 10 minutes later. So, am I focusing on the right thing during WILDing, what should I be thinking about that wont stop me slleping?

How would you describe what you think is HI that you’re experiencing?

…you’re not focused enough, that’s why you’re falling asleep…as for the part about not being able to get comfortable, you need to be more relaxed.

As suggested on the main site, try imagining you’re going up/down a staircase and counting each step.

I think this is a topic for the first steps to lucidity forum. Mods?

I’d agree there, should be moved.

Give him a break guys. Anyway just foucs more. Just relax, close your guys, foucs on your breathing. I never had one but came close. I opened my eyes stupidly so dont do that or else… :dark:… you wont a LD lol

i have been lucid dreaming for many years now, and i agree with what you are saying, i cant use the Wild tech unless i am dead tired and then my mind ussaly wonders off which makes it even harder. When i do try wild i cant fall asleep at all… so that makes it a very hard night and the next day, i dont know what is causing it i can relax quite well get SP basicly, and have some HI but it never progesses past there, when i am focusing on it i can never let go enough… as for moving to the first steps to lucidity? wowi dontknow i think it is a valid question for anywhere

ArthiswiftKvar, i think that WILD methods may be divided in two main classes. Those in which you focus on a mental thing, like counting or repeating a sentence. And those in which you focus on a sensation, like the fuzzy light dots, the falling feeling, the breathing, etc.

People who don’t fall easily asleep should use the second, cause focusing on a mental thing can prevent them from falling asleep. And people who fall asleep quickly too much should use the first. That’s my feeling.

Anyway, it’s very hard to find the balance between falling asleep and staying conscious. But you have to remember that the main thing is falling asleep. So, try to stay conscious while falling asleep. And don’t try to fall asleep while staying conscious or else you’ll never fall asleep.

No, it’s the many WILD topics in the First Steps forum which are in the wrong place. The First Steps forum is for general beginners questions like “What is a LD?” “How to remember dreams?” “How to choose my technique?” “I’m afraid of LD’ing, what to do?” etc. Precise questions about different inductions techniques (MILD, WILD, RC’s) are to be found in the Quest for Lucidity forum.

I don’t think he is not focused enough. He said, " I always roll over and give up." That means he is too focused, because he doesnt fall asleep. It is only after he gives up that he falls asleep.
I think if you focus about half as much as you have been when trying to WILD(the part before you give up), you will succeed. The problem is not the body falling asleep, becaue you said you can easily fall asleep within 10 minutes of WILDing. It is your level of consciousness.

I have the same feeling. It’s generally because you focus too much that you don’t fall asleep.
