Will i ever fall asleep?

Hello to all you dreamers!

I found out about lucid dreaming 3 nights ago, and it totally blew my mind. Not literally, but still… So i’ve started to try to remember my dreams, by following the instructions as described on this website. I guess i am a deep sleeper, because i rarely remember my dreams unless they’re very special. I can never remember the “feeling of falling asleep”, which basically means that i’m lying there, trying to sleep, and all of a sudden my alarm clock wakes me up once again to tell me that i’ve slept all night without remebering any of my dreams. Cruel!
And also, it ussually takes me quite long to fall asleep (more than 1 hour is common), and most of the time i am not very tired when i go to bed, even if i stay up late.

Now that you got the basic facts, it’s time for you to hear my problem:

I go to bed, i do the relaxation exercise described on the website, i then im ready to try to get some sleep/dreams. I take deep breaths and think for myself: I’ll sleep, i’ll dream, and i WILL remeber my dream when i wake up. When i’ve laid there for about 20-40 minutes (depending of how tired i am) i have this feeling that i become quite numb and start vibrating a little. I don’t know if this has anything to do with falling asleep or not, but when i get there i usually get so exited and think: oh! so this is how it feels when youre falling asleep! but when i get that exited my heart starts to beat fast and all of a sudden it feels like my eyes are forced to try to look into my head, behind closed eyelids, and that is kind of uncomfortable. So to get rid of the eye-thing i have to open my eyes and roll over to the otherside of my bed. By doing that, i’m am as awake as i was when i got to bed and have to start over. I usually try it again, but ending up with thinking: My subconsiussnes probably got the message by now, and im just trying to sleep the regular way. Then i wake up and: surprise! i can’t remember any of my dreams!

I do seem to remember small fragments of dreams if i do 10 minutes “snoozes” with my alarm clock in the morning, and i do write them down in my dream journal but its never much to write down.

Anyway i would be glad to recieve some quality tips about falling asleep easier, dream recalling or anything you think might help me.

To end this post i just whish to say that i know i’ve only been doing this for 3-4 nights, but still, i think i should have come a small way conquering my subconsiusnes about remebering my dreams! don’t you?

my english is probably not as good as i think it is, sorry for that :content:

peace!

i did’t know where to put this post, since it’s about both dream recalling and problems falling asleep, so admins: feel free to put this post where you think it belongs!

Hmmm…
Your english is pretty, good, I just had to tell you that.

As for your problem, I experience the same thing on some nights. I don’t really know what to tell you when it comes to your problem, but that keeping a dream journal has helped me imporove my dream recall. There are still plenty of nights when I don’t remember anything! You just have to keep trying, and if at first, all you remember are the dreams you have during 10 minute snoozes (happens to me sometimes, too) write those down! Just write anything you can remember!

Well, you’ve consciously reached that sleep paralysis period, which is something I’ve never managed to do, so I congratulate you for that. You just have to decide to ignore those bizarre sensations–which, I’m told, are normal experiences during WILD–or not do whatever you’re doing at all.

If you want to improve dream recall, try setting an alarm for right in the middle of an REM state. Try for maybe six hours or so after you intend to fall asleep. Lie in bed for a moment when your alarm goes off, eyes closed, but willing yourself to stay awake. Try to remember any and all dreams in as much detail as possible and run through them in your head over and over again. Be careful not to fall back asleep. Once you’ve solidified those dream memories in your head, write them down in your dream journal. Then go back to bed and try some MILD techniques. Works wonderfully, and you don’t lose much sleep. You might even remember more dreams when you wake up again at the normal time.

Good luck, and keep at it! Believe that you WILL wake up and you WILL remember all your dreams and you WILL write them down.

Welcome FarOut

It often takes me along time to fall asleep too. I went through a period where I could not recall any dreams for so long…it was painful. But I just wrote down anything I remembered, even if it was a feeling of what type of dream I had. Then I started to remember them…now I remember almost all of them each night. So hang in there…keep writing in a dream journal and I’m sure you’ll remember your dreams eventually!

Another thing that might help is thinking about dreaming during the day and doing Reality Checks. If you get any ideas coming up during the daytime about what you might like to dream about at night try writing those down. Then read them before you go to sleep.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your replies, i will for sure try them!

And actually, this very morning i remebered a piece from a dream, by keep telling myself to remeber my dreams and doing the half-glass-of-water trick. Even though it was just this short scene were i was talking with my school-teacher about some classmate that had become an alcoholic or something, I actually got very happy and exited and thought: Man, this actually seems work! It gave a great boost to my motivation!

Eventhough it wasn’t a LD or anything near it, it was still a dream and I always find them funny to remeber, especially if they’re special!
Some night soon I hope to remember an entire dream, and eventually i will be able to start tryin’ for some real LD-action!

That is a sign that you have entered a state of deep relaxation and possibly even a light trance. It is a good sign that you got that far in just a few days.

That causes you to wake back up. When practicing WILD you have to learn to let go of those thought and feelings. Don’t worry you will get the hang of it with practice.

Anyway, it seems to me that you are trying to fly before you learn how to walk.

The first thing you need to do is work on your dream recall. Don’t worry this does not take to long and is easy.

  1. do you have a DJ? If you don’t then get one. A simple note book is fine. Every morning write something in it. Even if it is just fragments of dreams. If you can’t even remember that much then write down your thoughts and feelings. No matter what write something every morning.

  2. At night when you go to sleep take a moment to relax then simply tell yourself that you will remember your dreams then just let yourself fall asleep.

2A)(not required but highly suggested) Same as #2 only this time tell yourself that you will wake up after every dream and that you will remember it. If you wake in the middle of the night just write some quick notes on the dream you just woke from. Go back to sleep and again just remind yourself of your intention to remember your dreams. If the auto suggestion to wake up does not work for you then you can set an alarm clock to wake you 6 hours after sleeping.

  1. When you wake in the morning just lay in bed. Try not to move. Try to remember any dreams you had. If you must turn off an alarm just slowly move your arm and hit the off or snooze button. Try not to disturb yourself. Like I said in #1 write down any dream you remember.

After a week or 2 of that, you should be able to recall at least 1 dream (probably more) per night. Once you can remember at least one dream per night then you will be ready for the next step.

Happy dreaming.

You have difficulty having dream ?

Oh man im glad to not be like you. I mean I was kid and I could at least dream a little…

Actually, I have not started to try to get any LD’s yet. Im only tryin’ to remeber my dreams by telling myself the mantra (I’m going to sleep, I’m going to dream and i will remember my dream!). I guess you thought i was tryin’ to WILD when i reached the numb/vibrating bit? No, I reach that by telling myself i will remember my dream, wich might be enough to keep myself kind of conciuos(sp?) when im about to drift of to sleep, know what i mean?

Anyway thanks for the tips, man! I hope i’ll find them helpful.

By the way, today all i remembered when i woke up, was that i had experienced a FA. I knew it because in my dream i woke up at 10, but when i woke up IRL my clock was only 9.30. Of my 4 dreams remembered now (not entire dreams, just small scenes) i’ve had FA’s in 2. Could that be some kind of dreamsigns? I’ve been thinking about making habit of doing a RC everytime i wake up, so that i might do it in a FA and become lucid…
