women and men

i herd that women can remember dreams better then men, is this true?

Women have the ability to do differents things at the same time. Since mankind is mankind, women have been the ones who took care of the children, cook, etc … So their brain actualy evolved in a way that they can do multiple things at the same time. Men on the other hand had to hunt. They needed to focus on ONE objective to succeed. So women and men have different brain structures. I would not be surprise if one side could remember dreams more then the other. But I do not know if it’s true that women actualy remembers more. A dream is an objective, if you focus on it you can remember it. So I would bet men remember their dreams more then women. Hope I did not lose anyone, because I do not remember the begening of my post … that’s never a good sign loll

if i was to take a stab at that question, i’d say that women have an easier time remembering normal dreams than men. that would be because women tend to have better memory. this is because of ecolutionary traits. however, in the case of lucid dreams, i would say the tables are turned. that because men, by evolutionary role, are given the task of fokusing on one thing at a time(usually hunting). this means that a man needs good memory pertaining to the thing he is fokusing on. seeing as a LD is a dream that you are fokusing on, often to a great extent, it seems natural that men have the edge there. this would also reflect off natures balanced rules for everything. what you lack in one trait, you make up for in another.

of course, i can be wrong…

:flower: Yay, I found my trademark emoticon! :flower:

Anyway, here is my experience with the women and dreaming:

My wife remembers maybe 2 dreams a week
My daughter remembers maybe 4 a week
My mom remembers 2-3 a night

My son remembers 2-3 a week
My father remembers 1 a week
I remember 3-4 a night

Seems like there could be a genetic tie in there somewhere. Maybe like baldness, you inherit if from you grandmother?

This would make for a fascinating study.

i don’t believe that women or men inherently remember their dreams more than the other sex, simply because the ability to remember dreams is affected by the amount of effort put in to retaining those memories. one out of my three female roommates remembers dreams, and that’s about four dreams a week. the other two never remember their dreams.

i, a male, remember about 2-3 dreams per night, because i make a substantial effort to do so. i keep a dream journal and make sure to search my brain for any and all dream fragments. the roommate that remembers dreams never writes her dreams down, but she does consciously try to remember her dreams because she feels they are meaningful.

if one sex is better tahn the other at dream recall, i think it would be impossible to decipher because of the human ability to increase dream recall at will.

You know very often when doctor checks your pulse, they also check your breath. But they never tell (I am a certified nurse, and I know that nurses do the same :look: ), thats because if they told you " Now I will mesure your breath", you will automatically start breathing diferently… Cause breath is something we control. This is why they never tell you when they do it.

I accept there is a chance that women and men might remember diferent amound of dreams, but I think we have no way of mesuring it, as they would have to know about the test, and that would already afect the results of it.

Also diferent settings, moods, problems all these things affect how we remember our dreams, just like how we breath …
Its imposible to measure at this time.

If dreams were considered more important by society we could do some basic studies, but they wouldn’t really prove anything until we know quite well how the mind works.

I agree that we cannot quantify, but quantifying and comparing are two different aspect of calculing. You have the donkey and the daulphin. We both agree that the daulphin is supperior in intelligence, but we can’t quantify it’s intelligence. You cannot say “ohhh the donkey has 24 and the daulphin has 65” … the thing you can do is comparing both animals by reactions to sens stimulations. Anyways my point would be that I agree with you when you say that we cannot measure it, but with logic and some extrapolations (I dunno if we can say that in english) we can come with a logical answer. That would be men remembering more their dreams then women. Also emotions are always negative when it comes to remembering stuff or learning. Did you ever try to study and have sex at the same time ? I bet not ! We all know which sex gets more sensitive about things. So in that way … men, you have my vote on that cyber-debate ! … gnight !
