Anime for beginners

omg, I thought I’d put that…AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrggghhhh

The best anime I’ve seen, by far, is Grave Of the Fireflies (or Hotaru No Haka in japanese) by Isao Takahata. If you don’t believe an animated movie can move you to tears, watch this. I’ve never seen a movie, animated or not, that has touched me so deeply as this. It is definitely one of the greatest masterpieces of all times.

The movie is about a young boy, Seita, who struggles for survival in Japan during world war 2 togehter with his five year old sister Setsuko. Their story is heartbreakingly beautiful.

And furthermore, the music is simply wonderful and the drawing is excellent. I’ve never seen an animated movie that is this beautiful. The whole movie is like a piece of art.

Some praise this movie has received:

“I have a thing for antiwar films, All Quiet on the Western Front, Men Behind the Sun, The Sand Pebbles, and others that put a face on the chaos and suffering of those both in and out of uniform, but Grave of the Fireflies tops them all.”

“Watch it. Watch it with your friends and your relatives. Watch it with your children. It could very well change everything you ever thought about war and its repercussions.”

“This is a movie which should be in everyone’s collection, to remind us of the hardships of war, and how the past should never be forgotten.”

Whoah I like downward spiral’s list!

My top 5:

  1. Princess Mononoke
  2. Akira
  3. Spirited Away
  4. Cowboy Bebop (film, not series)
  5. Ghost In The Shell

And if it’s manga then it’s easy! Theres only one thing you wanna read!

Akira! It’s got 6 different books. ABout 400 times longer than the film, and completely different. And miles better!

Oh and go to www.tokyopop.com and buy Battle Royale mangas! They are among the greatest things I’ve ever read!

If you want a great mix of hilarity and drama get “Great Teacher Onizuka”. It’s definately my fav anime. The Ghost In The Shell movie and series are sure to blow your mind. “Hack Sign” is pretty good too. “Vampire Hunter D” is also kickass. And “Locke The Superman” is an oldie but a goody.
