The Automatization Technique

Strange how old topics come back to live…

Anyways, while reading this I noticed that I still don´t know a good answer to my own question from last year:

How can you use a DS that lasts over a longer period of time?
Let´s say the DS is eating a pizza.

You can´t constantly RC while eating the pizza, otherwise you wouldn´t ever finish the pizza. Of course you could do a couple of RCs while eating. The disadvantages are that you would need to do quite a lot (especially if you are a slow pizza eater) and that the automatization wouldn´t work as good. It would be just a weak association, not an automated response. Imagine yourself in the dream eating the pizza thinking “Oh yes, I am eating the pizza, in a couple of minutes I should do a RC…”.
The whole idea of this conditioning is that you do the RC as soon as you spot the DS, without thinking about it.
So, my only idea would be to replace the “long lasting DS” by a short one. For example, do a RC everytime you order a pizza, or everytime you start eating a pizza, or open the pizza carton, or finish a pizza…
However, it´s often difficult to pick something that really happens in the dream, since you might be just dreaming of eating the pizza, without every ordering or finishing it. Well, that´s enough on pizza for today :bored:

Got any thoughts on this problem?

i’ve read this theory and i have a few questions…

you usually don’t dream about things that are automated in real life, like opening a door or driving a car or going to the toilet…

since your dreams often “process” your day, especially odd things or things that were out of place, automated things won’t be interessting enough to dream about.

so the cue must be something odd, or something that your conscious of (or a dreamsign)… but i also has to be automated! (and not conscious of!)

also, you don’t want your mind to automatically say, you’re not dreaming this is real…

so i think it will only work if you have a dreamsign as cue (when i kept my journal i couldn’t detect good dreamsigns/cue’s)… and if only remembering to do an RC is automated, not the RC itself (since you must be really conscious and not give an automated answer)

am i right or is there something i don’t quite understand?

I do dream about automated stuff, it’s just part of the whole scenario processing the abnormal stuff. For instance if I meet someone special during the day I might dream of him/her, and at the same time this could trigger an automated RC caused by “meeting someone you know”. So, you could take a DS like, meeting friends, walking into/out of a house, driving a car. Each of these can be stuff you dream of al lot and also happen a lot IRL, it depends on the dreamer.
