hey
i recently had an idea for a new reality check, but am not really sure if it would work, so i thought i would come here first.
I’m not really sure if this is a common thing, or just for me, but personally, my dreams are constantly active. I rarely get any dreams where nothing happens for a long space of time. My idea is to simply (as a reality check) stop what i’m doing, and just stand there, and slowly count to 10. If nothing happens in that space of time, then the odds are, i’m awake.
in that 10 seconds i could also be studying the environment, and making sure that everything is normal (awareness type stuff) and after this, i will naturally be more conscious of the possibility that this is a dream, even if the reality check fails.
so what do you think?
I don’t think you’ll make it to 10. You are right about the fact that there always is something happening. If I get stuck in a dream, it takes a few seconds for my mind to lose focus and the dream changes into something more interesting. Ten seconds is a long time for a reality check and based on how resilient my mind sometimes is, a more obvious sign that I’m dreaming is needed. Trying to move objects with my mind, counting fingers or plugging my nose have been working.
cool,
thanks
(also, sometimes it’s even hard to get to 10 in reality )
That’s a pretty cool idea, and I actually like doing this along with the regular RCs (although I don’t usually count). One after the other, it’s like double checking in case one of them fails, although it’s rare, it does happen.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks
it’s also a nifty way to get a few extremely short ADA sessions in while remembering
