The 15th Asian Games are about to take place in Doha, Qatar from December 1st - 15th. I live in Qatar, and i have to say i am disgusted with Qatars stupidity in organising such a large event in such a tiny country.
The green thing is Qatar. Can you imagine the amount of people who will come into Qatar?
Another thing which makes me furious is Qatars planning. Qatar has really horrible roads, and in certain locations, you can still see a ‘desert’, a place full of rocks and sand, which could be used for a better purpose. Qatar only started improving the roads and started building a couple of months ago, when they were informed on November 12th, 2000 that they will be hosting the Asian Games.
I think the Asian Games this year, won’t be very good. Qatar already has major problems with traffic, i can’t imagine what will happen in the next two weeks.
The one good thing about Qatar, is that Qatar is quite wealthy, and has a couple of malls, which will be useful.
Anyhow, anyone coming to Doha to watch the Asian Games, or interested in watching the ASian Games on TV?
Believe me, that’s not an issue, there’s plenty of room for everyone. Your country isn’t as small as you think.
Are you kidding? It’s the best planned roads in the Middle East, I hear! In fact, when we studied Qatar in Geography, we were told it’s the most developed country in the Middle East depending on the modernity indicators, and by far the closest (I recall the teacher remarking, “some would say the only”) country in the Middle East to socioeconomical development. Lots of desert doesn’t make the place useless or empty. Just look at Australia. Great country, most of which taken by useless desertic space (really, useless, the big desert—I think it was called Great Desert, isn’t it?—is mostly not inhabitable and the Victoria Desert also doens’t offer as much possibility of urbanization as the straight shore line does). Of course, I’m making general statements here, some way too general, and I’d have to check most of what I’m affirming, but I don’t think you should look down to your country like that.
Those problems are being worked out already, especially around Doha, lots of roads being built and lots planned: in fact the agenda of modernization is pretty well laid out and it’s supposed to be a great urbanistic achievement. My friend who studies Architecture and Urbanism was very emphatic about how great Doha and its surroundings are going to be when the reforms are done.
Haha, once again I’ll have to disagree! I don’t think wealth is a decent indicator of how good a society is.
We don’t have those here. Will AlJazeera screen it? Because I’ve been watching the international AlJazeera lately (it’s so cool to watch it and then watch Fox News and see how both handle the same news), and that’s perhaps the only channel I have access to that has a chance of broadcasting the games here in Brazil.
Perhaps you are right, but i did forget that the games will take care in DOHA, in Qatar and Doha is even smaller.
Qatar does definitley not have the most advanced roads. Beleive me, it does not. UAE on the other hand, does and is Qatars ‘template’ on development, since Qatar is mimicing UAE. And to let you know, all the things i have said aren’t just my point of view. I know many people who agree, with me on some of this.
AS for the desserts, i agree desserts look good in certain cases, but not in Qatar. In Qatar, you might be walking and find roads and cars on your left and fing a dessert on your right, and it’s not even right to call it a dessert. It’s broken up land, with stones, some sand, and debris.
Firstly, it’s not my country . We’ve had this discussion a long time ago, and i told you i don’t consider myself even 1% Qatari. Secondly, I agree I look down on Qatar, because there are many things i hate so much in Qatar, that makes me angry. Ofcourse, there are a lot of benefits, but all my comments are coming out negative.
They haven’t worked out. Qatar is too late, to try to work things out. The Asian Games start today, and there are a lot of roads which are nowhere near finished. Qatar decided to improve and build roads, a month before the games.
UAAEE Bruno! You and your Wisdom .
If you want to reply to a comment, then be my guest, this is actually quite fun and interesting.

Anyway there are SO many sports taking place a day, that it would take up so much time for me to stay up to date, with each game and scores. So instead, I’ll direct you to the Asian Games website:
