1st Lucid dream weird experience...

Yesterday, I had my first lucid dream ever (or so I think). I used the WBTB combined with MILD techniques and ended up becoming lucid out of nowhere. No RC, no DS. I just randomly thought: “Hey! I’m dreaming right now!” without any proof. Then, to insure myself the most lucidity I could, I shouted out loud: “This is a dream!” The problem is: my dream was still blurry and I could only see black and white. Later, I decided to try to fly. I tried the superman technique: no result. I then tried PasQuale’s flying squirrel technique: another disapointment. Finally, I try the most basic technique: the air swimming, and again, no result. The only thing I would achieve would be to glide on the ground. But the weirdest thing is that my DC were all able to hover a few inches above the ground using the same technique. I was really frustrated. This morning, I read that I could get rid of the blurriness by putting on my glasses while I’m dreaming. Gonna try again tonight, but I’d still like to have some comments or explanation on what happenned and what I should do.

At least you beat the vast majority by not waking up immediately or losing lucidness within a minute, so you actually did pretty well for a first LD. It just takes a little more confidence to fly in a LD. Better luck next time.

There really isn’t an explanation per se. Some dreams have lower lucidity than others. Though the ideal LD is perfect control, most often they’re not that way. That’s why people have different ways of doing things. Some things will work better for you but not for others, and vice versa. Really, the way to get better lucidity in the dream and such is to keep practicing. Experiment around in dreams. It’s a dream; you don’t have to do things a certain way. Find different ways to do things, and pick what you like. Sure, there’s suggestions and tips on the forum, but all in all, you have to make your techniques your own.

My flying nowadays is much different than it was when I was younger, maybe possibly because of the forums. When I was younger and pretty much only knew of LDs, my flying was often swimming style. It was slow, and I couldn’t get very high. Now, I don’t swim through the air. It’s more like almost big hops without the hopping and needing to touch down every so often, or imagining I’m “stepping” higher on the air, or a different technique that I learned in an ND but is a bit hard for me to describe. Usually I have a hard time dealing with blurriness, so I can’t really help there, but I’m sure you can find something here or someone else can help you as well.

Congrats on your first LD!
