Hello
I’m new here, so sorry if i post it to the wrong place but i don’t think it is.
I’m as new so I didnt have any LD so far, I barely even remember my dreams. But I’m practising hard.
As reading the site I imagined two interesting questions.
Can you do anything in an LD? And if so, cause I think the answer is yes, how can you do things which you have never experienced in real life? How can you, for example, have sex if you have never experienced it? (i have a story for this, once long ago I dreamt in a normal dream that I was shot in the head. I felt myself dizzy loosing my consiousness, I touched where the bullet entered my head there was a deep hole I felt the blood running out from me, it was so realistic even though -obviously- I’ve never been shot in real life.) How is it possible?
2.: How long is an average LD? Can it last hours, days, or more, and in real life its only minutes?
Hi kmb5
Although it is possible to do nearly anything in a lucid dream, it takes time and skill.
A lucid dream can last from a few seconds to around half an hour.
Yes you can do anything you can imagine. Everything that you experienced in waking life and later in dreams is not so different then from things you never experienced in waking life but you’ve experienced them in dreams. Why? Because in dreams there are no physical world it all in your mind.
You don’t feel with your hands or you don’t smell with your nose, you do it with your mind/brain. So everything that happens in dreams is copy of the waking world so if you know how is to feel breeze on your face you will have that impression in your dreams at it can feel real as waking life, sometimes even more real[when you start getting lucid dreams you’ll know what I mean].
So if you get shot in your face with a gun in a dream you don’t really know what’s that alike[I assume that you didn’t get shot in your face in waking life ] but you saw many movies and you played video games that contains that kind of material and your mind creates similar yet to you very real experience. There is one very important thing and that is: when ever you’re in a dream it feels real, you can feel, breath, sense and other things from waking life and that’s because you actually don’t see with your eyes or feel with your skin in the end it’s the brain/mind that interpret this sensations into sight or feeling. And that’s the same brain that creates dreams and sensations inside the dream.
Lucid dream can be long as you REM cycle is[modern science is telling that one doesn’t dream only in REM sleep but in previous stages too, but for the sake of the argument lets say that we only dream in REM sleep]. REM cycle is getting longer and longer with more time we sleep peer night. There are many topics about sleep stages here on forum…
The feeling we get in dreams that lasts an hour or week is something that we can’t tell for sure because in our DR there is many false memory. For example we dream something in the morning and then it’s night suddenly, you don’t have recall about the noon but your mind fills that gap and you have impression that you have dreamt about the whole day.
Even though Stephen LaBerge proved that dream time and waking time is the same, more or less, then this theory about false memory can be true.
I hope this helps! Remember most things I said are from my own experience and doesn’t have to be true for you or some other dreamer so good luck and never quit!
thanks a lot it helped me:)
By the way, I started this whole thing exactly yesterday, after I’ve read the guide, I decided to try the remembering part. I did the mentioned things before sleeping (relax, imagination, even the half glass of water) and when I woke up I remembered my dream. Well, not all details, but at least something! I’m happy because for months, I’ve never had a dream which I’ve remembered, until now!
So this site is getting more and more interesting, it is NOT fake, I see now (to new things I always get close carefully:D), and I’ll keep on practising!!
Thanks again!
i think for me i can only do things i’ve never done if i spend time imagining what they will be like before doing them. they aren’t as real as they could be
You can’t do one thing in your dream : create a genie in a lamp, then rub the lamp and ask the genie to make it all real.
This is why we can’t say the word “real” because everything is real.
