3rd person VS 1st person LD?

Well this is my first topic here… Hi everyone!

I dont know if i can say that i have had LDs… only one quick battle between conscience and subconscience after some meditation (a good story also, maybe ill write it later :content: ) and other short experiences . Ive been trying to WILD recently and was quite succesfull, altough i didnt tried too much.

But the point is: in my LDs i see myself in 3rd person, like if i were on a videogame and i just cant “move it” to first person. Sometimes it also changes “manually”, like in a movie…

So i would like to know… is this normal? have you ever tried/experienced? if you can easily see yourself in the two ways, which do you prefer? There are camera variations in your dreams?

For me it generally works this way:
3rd Person

  • Less sensitive… barely can feel things, only if they are huge (like a tidal wave for an real example)
  • Better control of myself and the dream world surrounding me
  • Somewhat easier to “build” (altough this process is not conscious, i can feel the energy used in the construction of the dream). It looks like i have more “material” to construct these dreams

1st Person

  • More real: never experienced an full dream in 1st, but when i did, it felt more real
  • Less conscious/lucid
  • Most appearance in nightmares.

ive had both. strangely enough my first ld i started out 3rd but when i became lucid i shot into 1st person.

in my first LDs I was always 3rd person and also found it very annoying ;/
but in my recent LDs I’m 1st person mostly which is good because I hate 3rd view (I often lose my lucidity because I think like “Hey I see myself in 3rd view! This is not a dream, I’m just playing a game on my PC! Oh how could I thought it’s a dream!”) but it’s not perfect 1st…when I move I often jump to 3rd person and then to 1st without doing anything to change the view
However in games I enjoy 3rd view

Less conscious ? Listen, all my LDs where 1st person. Each time I got lucid I was 3rd person. Only when I was in 1st person perspective I was able to get lucid. I bet most people have LD’s in 1st person…

So say, this doesn’t make sense. Are you talking about ND’s or LD’s ? Cause if you do, 3rd or 1st person in ND’s are the same in what concerns awareness (none). I don’t really know about 3rd person LD’s, but it would be less fun I think… it would be a lot easier to lose consciousness in 3rd person LD’s (it’s obvious why).
Now the point of all this would be that 1st person LD’s are most definitively a lot easier to “play” rather than 3rd person LD’s. So it would be exactly the oposite of what you said: 1st person should be a lot more aware. :meh:

Let’s say you’re talking about NDs here. I don’t agree (except if you’re talking about personal experiences and not in general). In 3rd person dreams I see the protagonist/s of the “story” acting - as watching a movie. Even though I’m a DO I can still feel what’s happening to them. One moment I’m watching it, the next I am it. I can’t see myself though - I never did. When I was the main character in ND’s I always “played” as 3rd person.

Anyways, I’d go for the 1st person experience. Why ?
-It’s a lot more stable, you can control yourself better because you’re like you know yourself;
-You see everything like you do IRL, thus everything is a lot easier to keep track of.

Oh and one more thing: there can also be dreams where you see in 1st person, but you’re playing the role of someone else. I mean, if you would look in a mirror, it wouldn’t be you.

That would be all,
so 1st person for me

Well this is why i said in MY opinion hehe . Well its more difficult to me to mantain a stable dream while in first person… Again, its seem harder to construct those dreams, i dont know why, but i just feel that in 1st person its necessary more energy to maintain lucid. Today i had one lucid dream (yay WTBT FTW!) and in this one i observed that the “camera” is dynamic
BUT you have a point, the more immersed i felt in the dream ( which doesnt implyes i was less conscious) the more the “camera” seemed to tend to 1st person, and the more realistic the dream seemed.

Well its good to know that im not the only one with dreams in differents and dynamics cameras…

Maybe its a question of practice after all… i think my brain must not be familiarized with maintaning conscience and at the same time construct dreams… maybe thats why my LDs seem so chaotic too. Last one a DC said he was repeating the same movement because he was lazy and to dont make me have to imagine other movement

I’m always 1st person in lucid dreams and I’m not sure if you can actually be lucid while in 3rd person…
How I experiences it is, when I become lucid I feel like I am me, my own set of brains and my own feelings so I am always in first person. Like in waking life. When the first person changes into third person or when I become a DO I always loose lucidity, it becomes a movie that I’m watching with usually DC’s playing in it and I then sometimes become one of those characters and switch to first person again but without lucidity, so just a ND.

(Another possibility is watching a ND like watching a movie but without being a DO. Actually exactly the same as when you would watch a movie in waking life so you can be lucid in first person but you’re watching a ‘movie’ so you would be able to stand up and walk away from the movie and even pause/stop/resume the movie. It’s something tricky because it’s similar to a ND and being a DO, so if you’re aware enough, thus lucid, you know you can just stand up and walk away to do other lucid stuff.)

My first LD. Before I became lucid I was switching between 1st and 3rd. But as soon as I realized I was dreaming it stayed at 1st person.

oh yes, i have had that. but to me it’s often switching! like, i am looking at things and see them and it’s 1st person, but then i decide to go somewhere, and i zoom out of my head and see my whole body running there. but when i reach it, i will zoom back into my head again. it’s strange, but in the dream i don’t even notice that. it’s just the kind of switching that you use in a video game, i suppose, and in the dream it’s sometimes nicer to feel that way.

even in one of my first LDs i remember that i was in my body when i summoned a character, hugged him… and then i was so happy that i jumped around. and i saw myself jumping around in circles from the side, saw what i was wearing and how i looked. but later i came back into my body again.

really i think you’re still in your mind whether you are in your body or not. it’s just how your mind prefers to see you, from the side or not. i still say that it’s 1st person, not 3rd, because even if i see myself from the side, i still make the decisions and feel everything i do.

My dreams alternate between first and third person, but it’s hard to imagine a third-person lucid dream (but they can happen)! Often third person dreams become first person when you become lucid.

When I have 3rd person dreams, my dreams are less vivid, and it usually happens when I play games during the day/week. 1st person dreams usually happens when I don’t play games at all. 3rd person dreams are usually more ‘agitated’, like, the dream flows better, things happen more but I never gained lucidity while in 3rd person. 1st person dreams are more ‘calm’, things that happen are more vivid, more real but more still. In both I felt things as they are, unless my dreams were too ‘dense’, too hard to remember, but when they were vivid, I felt things as they are.

I usually dream in first-person, but some times, when I´ve done something to my face, I can see myself from the “outside”.

I honestly can’t remember any LDs I’ve had in the 3rd person. I definitely had a bit of normal ones, but whenever I’m lucid, its always just like im in real life
