do you have your 5 senses in lds?
How Strong Are They?
Hearing: It’s a lot more quiet than IRL and no background noises but I still hear what I listen for clearly. It’s like half of the sounds are semi-telepathy.
Sight: Varies a lot. I have had sight that I’ve experienced as stronger than IRL but generally it’s a bit bellow. Sometimes very dark and not much to see.
Touch: Also varies. Generally it’s still significant but not as strong as IRL. I often feel my whole body shivering in a very pleasant way on different occasions, mostly when flying. Tonight I felt it very strongly when I was skydiving.
Smell: I can only remember one time that I’ve experienced smell and it was very weak.
Taste: Very strong! I’ve tasted food many times and it’s not uncommon that the taste is still in my mouth when I awake. Tastes delicious!
Here is a template anyone can copy-paste and write how you experience senses in dreams
Hearing:
Sight:
Touch:
Smell:
Taste:
It actually depends on your lucidity level and dream control, as well as your expectations. If the dream is not vivid, even though you are lucid, it may be hard to feel all your senses. If the dream is vivid, you should find little difficulty in feeling what you want. Physical feeling, Sight and hearing is the most basic senses, which you should be able to feel during any dream. Smell and taste may not always work, but if you are concentrated enough and determined to feel them, you will surely succeed. If you think, that the chicken will taste like a candy, it will actually do that . The same with smell, although the object’s natural taste and smell is easier to achieve. The strenght of these feelings may also vary. Sometimes your feelings are weak, sometimes they are stronger than IRL. It depend’s on the dream and the dream control.
Let’s do this thang.
Hearing: Very little in terms of background noise other than trees rustling and water and such. No background talking, but doesn’t feel empty. Sounds in general are very clear when they happen.
Sight: Very, very clear most of the time. Sometimes the world gets fuzzier and hazier the further away from me I look.
Touch: Bland. I can feel shapes, but no textures or temperatures. When flying I feel wind blowing my jacket and feel the ripples it causes in it.
Smell: I have experienced smell a couple times in lucid dreams, but it is never there without me specifically expecting it. Usually nonexistant, but can be powerful when it’s there.
Taste: Absolutely amazing. Just like eating in real life, but the food is perfect. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Hearing: About the same as RL for me, background noise and all. Sometimes voices can seem a little muffled depending on the dream quality, and RL noises like a fan have bled through before.
Sight: Fuzzier on some dreams, normal on others and crystal clear on the best of my LD’s.
Touch: Again, similar to RL. I’ve felt a breeze before, but usually only feel what I intend to touch.
Smell:Rarely smell anything except for the highest quality dreams, and then it is a bit more like RL
Taste: Perfect. RL food tends to be as expected or better, and other things that I come up with are great.
Sight, hearing and touch:
Always work but are not always crystal clear. In some very vivid LDs, their messages have been as clear as IRL.
Smell and taste:
Rarely experienced, but when these senses work, they send aberrant messages. I’ve tasted bread that was acidulated, and some food that provoked paresthesia in my mouth.
What about the other senses?
Nociception:
I feel pain in dreams and its intensity can vary from mild to excruciating (can make me wake up). But often the pain is inappropriate: no pain after violent accidents or sudden intense pain for no reason. Pain remains a rare sensation in my dreams which are virtually pain free.
Thermoception:
This sense can be as accurate as IRL for me. Sometimes it’s weak (vague hotness when walking on lava) or even not working at all (in 30-50% of my dreams). It is sometimes inappropriate.
Equilibrioception and kinesthesioception:
I feel angular accelerations mostly when I fly. Also I can feel when I fall from a height. Sometimes I experience sudden changes in gravity (quite like in Inception).
Proprioception:
This sense works most of the time but it is less accurate, I feel like I am floating a little even when gravity keeps me on the ground.
Interoception:
Rarely works for me. I’ve felt hungry a few times, I’ve felt the need to go to the toilet.
Hearing: I barely hear anything in my dreams. Sometimes I hear, but rarely. When I have conversations with others…I’m kind of I guess, telepathic, I don’t hear, but know.
Sight:Sights always fine for me, exactly like RL. Sometimes a little hazy, but for the most part fine. There was only one time I could remember being blind. Sometimes it feels as if theres this clear film/sheet in my vision.
Touch: This sense in dreams hardly ever works. I never feel physical things in my dreams. There is no textures in my dream basically, lol. However, when it comes to LD’s I once concentrated on my senses and felt a cold pole heh. It’s there when I concentrate on it.
Smell: I never smell in my dreams. Never… I should experiement with this!
Taste: I can taste sometimes but it’s somewhat rare. I tried to taste some things in LD’s. From those experiences, my taste buds weren’t working properly. Things tasted bland. Once I ate a star though, tasted sweet, like sugar crystals.
