A Constant Reminder (MILD/RC aid?)

Well, you know people have a piece of thread around their finger if they want to remember something. What if you applied this to LDing.

I have heard of drawing a “C” on your hand (C for consciousness), something similar to that. But maybe something more blatant, such as a note which says “YOU ARE DREAMING” taped onto your shirt (you wouldn’t step outside your house I guess  ) Perhaps the more ridiculous or overt the better, as it would stick out in your mind. You go to sleep with this reminder, and keep your awareness of it, concentrate on seeing it again (in a dream). Seems like it would work even better if you had some kind of physical contact with it, such as having it taped to your skin or something, such that it wouldn’t fade from your awareness as easily. Your body would detect it as out of the ordinary, perhaps. People pointing it out or asking about it would probably increase it’s effectiveness, the experiences and memories incorporated into a dream.

If you kept your awareness of it, REMEMBERED that you went to sleep with it, made it important in your mind that YOU have this thing and you must not forget it!!.. then the effort might pay off.

Seems like almost like a mix between an RC reminder and a sort of constant MILD. As long as you concentrated on being aware of it during the day, “remembering” you have it with you (like remembering you have a watch which looks a certain way), it would follow you into your dreams. Since it would be direct, like “YOU ARE DREAMING”, it doesn’t require you recall the meaning attatched to a symbol, like a string or the letter C. And if your little reminder appeared differently than it did in waking life, perhaps you would pick that up as a sign that things are amiss.

Anyone tried something like this? I have tried drawing a “C” or “LD” on my hand before. It certainly works as an RC reminder, if nothing else, but I have not yet tried to “carry it over” into the dreamworld. And unfortunately, anything more elaborate than a few letters scrawled on your hand would garner some strange stares in public (I have the image of someone walking around with a piece of paper that says “YOU ARE DREAMING!” taped to their head… :gni: ), so maybe it is better suited to a quiet weekend at home.

I personaly find that doing it sometimes (ie. some of the time) can help.

But doing it all the time becomes counter-productive – then you’re just training yourself to do an RC when you see the mark on your hand, or the post-it on your door-frame. And eventually it’s become such a constant feature of your enviroment that you don’t really see it at all – it’s just another one of those things that you don’t even notice unless something or other calls it to your attention.

I find that a single letter, or a star, or check-mark is quite sufficient – what you want is a reminder, not a billboard.
