Hi! I have heard a lot about Nova dreaming devices and was wondering if anyone has ever tried using a simple light timer connected to a small lamp over or near your bedside, set to go off at a time when one is most likely to be REM sleeping. According to the Lucidity Institute, REM sleep mostly occurs after 4, 5, or 6 hours of sleep. Also, the small lamp may help to write better at night because you can see. I am guessing that if this works, after a while your system may become accustomed to the light at night and one may simply continue to sleep through it, so maybe increasing the intensity of the light bulb after a while may solve this problem. Have any of you tried this already?
no, i have never tryed this, but it seems like a fairly good idea… although i have never seen a light timer that can make a light flash rappidly? and you would have to have the lamp right over ur face, what if u woke up and hit ur head on it? anyways… sounds like a good idea…
Hi Rapidfire–You could use flashing Christmas lights, or they sell in many hardware stores a small device that fits into a normal average size light bulb socket which makes the light bulb flash. I myself, have been trying simply a small 15 watt light bulb which doesen’t flash. I’ve been trying it for two nights now. I have found that the light does wake me from sleep, and I have good dream recall and the light allows me to see when I write in my dream journal. As far as hitting your head on the lamp is concerned, that shoudn’t be a problem if you mount the light on your bed head board as I do. …Good luck
Or better yet… how about a strobe light? You can get one at your local music store or order one online for a little bit of nothing. You can set them to flash fast or slow… and all points in between. Seems like a good idea to me… what do y’all think?
I actually have tried that, or something like it anyway. But instead of a lamp I used a little watch and set it to go off in three hours, when I’d most likely be in a REM period. It didn’t work, I never even heard it. That was when I had never had a lucid dream before and when I was desperate to do anything. The flashing lamp thing would probably work better. I’ve never heard of a lamp where you could set it to go on and off before. Anyway, good idea Wizard.
