I was looking around wikihow and found an article on Lucid dreaming. Under the tips section i read that getting older makes it harder to lucid dream, starting at around puberty. Is this really true? If so, does anyone know why?
Well, if you think about it, elder people are normally less open for changes, and lucid dreaming is a big change indeed.
Also, notice stress and less sleeping starting to take their part, which doesn’t relate directly to age.
…but more to the lifestyle … look aroun at this forum , we have quite a lot of very skilled LDers who are grown up …
MAYBE it has also something to do with the fact that at older ages dreams are less often remebered if this skill is not trained …
I never believed in the saying “you can’t teach an old dog a new trick”. Even if a person is elderly and tyring to Lucid Dream for the first time, they can do it if they try hard enough and have the patience.
Now of course it is always better to start early. But it is like that for all things. Like learning a new language for example.
Hm… I think there could be a relation between age and ability to LD. Or at least it was like that for me. Before I knew what LDing was and got into it, I had very frequent LDs when I was still a kid. Never tried to control too much but from what I remember I was lucid a lot, I think more frequently than I am now and I´ve had quite some LDs recently.
I think this is true to a point. For example, learning a new language is much easier when you are younger then when you are say 30 or 40 but it by no means implies that it can’t be done, you may just have to work at it a little harder but the goal is still obtainable. I think Lucid dreaming would fall under that category. And also as other people said, you tend to get busier/have more stress as you get older which can be a hindrance, I know that for me, college kills my sleep schedule so it’s often hard to practice and build up regularity.
Hm, this may have an element of truth, but I mean this could apply to any number of things, like personality, determination, orginization etc., which all differ and are not strictly related to age.
Also, wikiHow isn’t really anything to go by. I found out about LDing from it, then found here, but after about a month on LD4All I actually went into the wikiHow article and edited a lot of it. For example, it stated that LDing was “very hard” and that “sleep paralysis is very rare”.
