Hello, just joined up today after learning something interesting about a friend of mine.
I first started researching into lucid dreaming a bit around 3 years ago after I started experiencing some pretty terrifying false awakenings. Wikipedia helpfully notified me that there was a link between these and lucid dreaming and I reasoned that things like reality checking might be able to help me escape some of the more awful parts of my nighmares which has been fairly successful. I was fascinated by the idea of lucid dreaming and have been able to experience a few, although my control of the experience always seems to slip away fairly quickly so I haven’t quite cracked it yet.
I recently had a lucid dream while on holiday with some of my friends and was telling them about it the next day. Most of them had never had anything more than realising they were dreaming then waking up but one of them seemed kind of surprised that we all thought it was anything special at all. His dreams have always been fully lucid, he has always been able to control them completely, do anything he wants, make anything happen, almost without limit. He said the only real exceptions he can remember are some nightmares where he would still be aware he was dreaming but was unable to control them.
He also told us that he doesn’t ever remember dreaming anymore, only very occasionally. But from as far back as he can remember until he was around 14 or 15 it was more or less back to back lucid dreams every night and whenever he can remember dreaming these days they are also lucid.
Is this common? I’ve read quite a lot on lucid dreaming and I know some people seem to have a lot more than others a lot more easily but I don’t think I ever read anyone saying they’d never had a normal dream. I’d be inclined to dismiss it as unlikley apart from knowing him really well and knowing that he’s not prone to talking rubbish. Also, he really did seem genuinely surprised that no one else had control of their dreams regularly.
Apologies if this information is already out on the forum somewhere, I had a quick look but could’t find anything.
Thanks,
Nick.
