An Experiment, involving something like but not quite VILD

Hey guys!
I’m not sure if this should go in the Lucid Lab or not, but it’s more of a question than anything else.
(Also, the way this starts has almost nothing to do with the actual question, but bear with me.)
So I was reading about the VILD technique a while ago and thought, well hey, I might try this. Doing it by the book didn’t seem to work, but this past summer I put my own spin on VILD which seemed to work: I create a dream scenario and just play it over in my head every night until I fall asleep. It worked; after about a week I had a dream very similar to the one I’d been incubating, remembered that from my waking life, and became lucid. (As usual, I woke immediately, but ah well.)

I hadn’t tried it for a while so last night I thought I’d give it a go. I came up with a scenario that started in the Terminal that I entered in my first really detailed lucid dream – Grand Central but covered in yellow mosaics and lined with windows into different dreams. I planned to meet my DG there, and imagined this happening and him helping me pick a window to go through. I told him what I wanted to accomplish that dream, etc. That wasn’t the interesting thing.

What was interesting was that after a while, my mind began to wander as I got closer to sleep. But it didn’t leave the Terminal – instead, I began walking with Valentin towards the end of the hall. Except instead of the end of the hall, there was just a darkness. I could turn around and see the Terminal behind me, but ahead of me it was just black. I didn’t like that and it wasn’t part of the scenario I was trying to incubate, so I woke myself from my half-sleep and started over.

But… when I woke up this morning I felt like that had been a really poor decision. Thinking back, I remember Valentin telling me something along the lines of, I should go into the darkness. I wasn’t quite asleep at that point… and the last time I saw Valentin, I asked him to help me become lucid when I was in that half-sleep state. So he might have been trying to do as I asked and I ignored him!

I am definitely going to try to go back to that black area tonight, but I was just wondering… what is the likelihood that that darkness was, in fact, a dream, and that if I had kept walking I would have walked into a real lucid dream? It seems sort of like my DG was trying to help me into a WILD, but I’ve never tried to WILD before and I didn’t experience any weird sounds/images/etc.

Thoughts?

I’ve read somewhere about creating a place from which you’re going to start dreaming. I mean the concept is great. Like in your case. You imagine a place that you created and eventually you have to dream that or something similar…

I was practicing that for some time, but I don’t know why I gave up…

I guess that your darkness was actually a dream, specifically because you asked Valentin to help you get lucid. Maybe that was a barrier between waking life and dream which would be lucid!

Try that again. When I’ll have time I will start to plane my starting place in dream!

Good luck!

I agree, the darkness was probably a dream wall or something. Try visualizing something coming up. Good luck!
