I’ve dreamed in the past that I was talking on the phone, carrying on a full conversation with someone. Unfortunately, this was before the idea of recording my dreams made sense to me and I don’t recall them. But, what I do recall is hanging up the phone and waking up - finding that I using my hand (thumb and pink fingers) as the phone. I wonder if that was part of the dream too.
it happenes sometimes if you are coming out of SP i heard , so you are doing what you are dreaming (strange nobody answered till now …)
What’s more interesting is how your mind manages to incorporate those external stimuli in nano-seconds! And without ruining the logic (well, probably the word narrative suits best here). What’s even MORE interesting is that certain stimuli would not bother your sleep, but certain others (like the smell of smoke) will POP you right out of bad, alert and ready.
well, for the smoke thing , that’s because of survival , you NEED to know if ya house is burning , on the contrary , monotone voices don’t posr any harm normally so they are ignore …
just my thoughts
Exactly, it goes back to a survival thing, the mind learns to block out certain noises and stimuli, in this case by inserting it into a dream, because it knows that these stimuli pose no threat and as such the bodies perogative is to stay asleep so that it is well rested for the next day.
It would be interesting to see what sounds wake people and what don’t, that could be a fun experiment.
Yeah it would be interesting
but the phone thing, where your holding an imaginary phone in your hands happens to me all the time. It happens mostly when im in limbo between wake and sleep, like right before im falling asleep. (bad example)
