Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Has anybody taken this plant? It was recommended to me 2 years ago as a “natural” medicine for reducing stress or anxiety. But I’ve read it’s got many other benefits.

I didn’t take it for months, but I couldn’t resist buying a new pot today because… it tastes great  (you take 1-2 teaspoon a day). The one I bought comes as a very dark paste, it has a strong, distinctive taste, probably from the sugar in it (Jaggery), and additional plants of Indian/asian origin (mostly).

It is said to have positive effects on memory. I was wondering if anyone tried it and how it affects your dreams or lucid dreams?

Unfortunately I’ve just barely started training for LD’s so I can’t tell you myself if it makes a difference, yet…

This is what is also called “indian ginseng”. I haven’t tried that, since you need a prescription for it in Norway. It appears like this is the only country where it isn’t freely available, so i have decided to let this post stay. Ordinary (korean) ginseng has been good for my sleep rhythm, and i have an 8 years old DJ note that blames ginseng for some vivid dreams.

And you don’t need to be lucid to keep a dream journal  I have found it very interesting to compare dreams from certain periods with the real life influences of that time!

Well it does say “children: half dose” on the bottle, though there is little side effects according to the Wikipedia page.

But fyi; they didn’t stock it anymore here in Brussels for many months because apparently some new legislation had called for proper labelling. This one I bought now came from Holland and shows the exact contents, which is 16mg of the actual plant for 100mg of the product apparently.

ps: I read about the dream journal but I’m too lazy to write it, however I do something similar only try to memorize something. So I recall a bit of the dreams of the last few days. I’ve found that when I wake up if I lie purposely on my back where I don’t fall easily asleep, and relax, even after I got up to switch off the alarm, I’ll just relax and quiet and then let it come without trying to concentrate… just lie there… and then sort of retelling it to myself calmly so I don’t loose track… and bits by bits it seems to come back. I repeat some of the parts so that when I move and get up I still remember it. I’ve written down a bit, but I think if I remember it during the day, and the next day, the most important part of the work was done.
