In lucid dreams I usually have a mate that goes along with me (a DC which I’m convinced is a real person, meaning shared dreaming), like a companion. Anyway, I wanted my dream companion to ‘teleport’ me to a specific place (not very specific; it was an area of a city I wanted to get to) since I haven’t learned how to change dream scenery yet. I hugged him and said:
I don’t know if you’re real or not, but please get me there.
I immediately woke up.
Why?! I don’t understand. I wasn’t excited or anything. And I just suddenly woke up. What caused this?
It’s like a glitch in a computer program - you click something and it causes the program to terminate unexpectedly with no apparent reason.
That’s usually what happens when I try to get dream characters to do stuff for me, although it isn’t usually that sudden. I remember once I tried to get my reflection to help me shape shift in a lucid dream, and it spent a long time setting up some sort of spell by arranging words in patterns on the floor, wasting all my time until the dream ended. The same thing happens if I try to get someone to drive me somewhere.
It probably wasn’t anything you did wrong. Waking up isn’t always caused by some mistake you made like getting excited, sometimes it just happens, probably for complex reasons involving brain chemistry that I don’t understand. Focusing more on dream senses can make that kind of sudden awakening less likely, but it cannot completely prevent it.
