Assistance with Reality Checks???

POINT:

Is there anything I can do to “break-through” into lucidity easier? Anything?

Background: I have had many Lucid Dreams. Various levels of control with varying layers of awareness. I however, not only tend to over look some obvious dream signs; reality checks have begun to fail me (Performing them in a dream proved inadequate to break-through to lucidity)

Scenario*

I am conversing back with Hi-Hop lyricist Eminem. The funny, yet twisted, aspect of our conversations was that I was “simply not a mere fan” We engaged in conversation as if I had pushed his career forth, along the lines of studio help. Groupies. Gotta love 'em. Even the dream ones, Ha. I suddenly around this part start performing reality checks. Checking my hands consistently, looking for any irregularities. (There was a slight “double-vision”… un noticed)

At one point I even performed my “push against” the floor take-off tehnique. It’s weird to vividly remember doing these, but not having the idea “click”. I even receive a phone call and keep double/triple checking the caller I.D, expecting to see the numbers shift. I decided to pick up the phone and who else would it be… a “drug” dealer asking me to come pick him up… WTF!

Scenario #2

I am in a Shopping Mall. Normal. Buying Candy… normal again. Oh, did I mention I have telekinesis abilities. The craziness continues, I actually felt the objects in which I commanded to my grasp. It was amazingly cool! I can slightly recall me questioning it, yet no answer presented itself… no “Eureka!” moment of “I’m Dreaming.” I just remember thinking about how to perform it better. I did… I’m pretty good at it. You all should see me, Ha.

I have noticed that even in my dreams I will find the scenarios to be unusual and even question why this is happening.
However I rarely asked myself the question " am I dreaming" fortunately whenever I have asked myself that question in a dream I have become lucid.

So what I advise is.

  1. Ask yourself “am I dreaming” a number of times during the day as a sincere question and if possible spontaneously.
  2. Be sure to do reality checks with events during your normal day that tend to happen in your dreams.
ie one of my triggers is whenever I pass a railway crossing close to my home do an RC. It even happened last night and started a LD
this works because it’s a road crossing I use on my commute most days of the week.

Some good RCs I tend to use our.

  • breathing through a pitch noses.
  • how high can I jump ( I find gravity tends to be weak in a dream)

I could figure that. Sometimes during my WL Reality Checks I never sincerely ask the question. It’s more of an action I do, not a question I pose. I’ll work on that… definitely.

To be honest, first of all, I didn’t read through all of your post

Anyway,

RCs are quite ridiculous , in the common way they are used.

Think about it, you probably had dreams with all kinds of complete irrational things, completely BIZARRE, but you don’t say “oh im dreaming.” You can always find some excuse to convince yourself you are indeed awake. How much irrational being able to breathe through the nose or having 6 fingers is ? Im sure you’ve seen stuff that are way more extreme so Im sure you can manipulate your own mind to think you’re awake just as well. Also, about the Dream Signs, the whole dream is a dream sign, in most dreams, everything, starting from the environment, your interactions with others, everything is usually quite disoriented. Shift your focus away from trying to recognize dream signs or trying to automatically RC to lucidity. Focus on clearing your awareness and perception. You are who you are, whether it is in waking or dreaming. If you develop your awareness, it will remain this way in the dream state.

If you want to do RCs, do ones such as tracing back your steps from the moment you woke up until the present moment, bring all the places you were in today into mind and roll that film. Then say, Ok im not dreaming now. Or maybe say: “Could this be a dream?” And then just try to find out, don’t have a certain ritual that you do like looking at your hands or so, just try to find out. Close your eyes and as you open them, think of yourself being in a different place. Try to summon an elephant into the area, try to fly… whatever works for you… you get the idea.

Generally, be aware of your environment when you’re waking and you’ll most definitely be aware of it when you’re dreaming.

hope this helps

I much agree with the last sentence. It falls around the category of “Lucid Living”. I do not however, think one cancels out the other. Or makes any other less credible. What’s credible is pretty individual. I’ve had the hand thing work, about 5/6 times in 2 weeks. That’s my best yet. Im very much the type to combine. I want to find al the waking life benefits as well, Lucid Living is one of those, definitely. Along with many others. Reality Checks help me tremendously. Same may not be said for you, or any others…
