Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn’t find it.
I’ve had lucid dreams for many years but only found out what they were about 2 years ago. It took me a while but I have now started working on my lucid dreams and I now have them very frequently. the problem is that they are still very short, just like a minute or two. I figured this was no problem since my ld’s were really low in detail before, and it has gotten alot better, so this should be fixable too.
But I read in a different forum posts from people who had been working on their ld’s for much longer than I, who still only had very short ld’s. Some reported longer ld’s, but they seemed to always had had it that way. I know about spinning, rubbing hands etc. and that usually buys me a little more time, but sometimes it seems I’m spending half my dream trying to not wake up and the other half stressing through my dream to get everything done.
My question is this:
Has anyone managed to significally increase the length of their lucid dreams?
It would be interesting to see a good avarage of people’s ld’s length in relation to their experience so I’m asking a series of questions and anyone who has time can answer;
How long have you been having lucid dreams and how often do you have them?
How long is your avarage lucid dream?
How long have you been trying to get longer ld’s, and has there been any significant increase in length since you first started having them? If yes, what do you attribute the increase in length to?
Some people seem to have short (1-2 mins) lucid dreams but every once in a while get a signifacally longer one. The next three questions are for people who sometimes have longer lucid dreams that stand out from the usual length of their ld’s.
How long has your longest lucid dream been?
How often do you have these longer lucid dreams?
Why do you think they are longer than your usual ld’s?
I first started having them 10 years ago and now have them every other night when I work on it.
I’d say a minute.
I’ve been working on them off and on for about a year, and while I can delay waking up slightly through the use of various tricks, it has not yet led to any signifacnt increase in length.
I can’t recall any ld that was significakky longer than the rest
First lucid dream about 1 year ago, but have been actively working on them for maybe 6 months.
Had only 5 of them, 4 of them were really short, maybe 2-3 minutes.
Have so few lucid dreams that this is something I dont train yet… I am still fighting to get LDs in the first place hehe
Longest = this is hard to tell, but once I had a really really long one. I managed to walk around, talk to people, visit forests and castle. Felt like atleast 40 minutes, However that could have been just an ilusion…
Have had it only once
Now and here is what I think, Its that it really does not matter how long they “really” last, I think what matters is how long it feels that they last … I think I read something about the time slowing in LDs, anyone experienced in that? In this way your dream could last hours for you, you could do loads of stuff, but it would only take 2 minutes from your “society life time”…
There are similar posts, but you have more questions. The previous ones only ask “how long are your LDs”
1Q. How long have you been having lucid dreams and how often do you have them?
1A. I found out about lucid dreaming 1 year and 2 months ago. And the past few months I have had about 18 LDs/month, but right now I seem to be on a dryspell, only 3 so far this month
2Q. How long is your avarage lucid dream?
2A. About 1-2 minutes.
3Q How long have you been trying to get longer ld’s, and has there been any significant increase in length since you first started having them? If yes, what do you attribute the increase in length to?
3A I guess I’ve been trying to get longer LDs almost since the first few months, but I haven’t really been trying that hard.
4Q How long has your longest lucid dream been?
4A About 10 minutes.
5Q How often do you have these longer lucid dreams?
5A Very rarely, have had maybe 3-4 that have been more than 5 minutes. But I think 2 of those happened on the same night
6Q Why do you think they are longer than your usual ld’s?
6A I have no idea Maybe it’s because conditions are just right for having a long LD.
LOL ! OK, I’ll answer again, for the same reasons !
1Q. How long have you been having lucid dreams and how often do you have them?
1A. I decided seriously to get involved in LD 7 months ago. During this period, I’ve had 40 LD’s.
2Q. How long is your avarage lucid dream?
2A. About 1-2 minutes.
3Q How long have you been trying to get longer ld’s, and has there been any significant increase in length since you first started having them? If yes, what do you attribute the increase in length to?
3A I’ve been trying to get longer LDs almost since the first few months. Not really significant increase, as I was trying harder the first months that nowadays.
4Q How long has your longest lucid dream been?
4A About 20 or 30 minutes (real time, not dream time).
5Q How often do you have these longer lucid dreams?
5A I’ve had 7 LD’s that have lasted longer than 5 minutes in 7 months.
6Q Why do you think they are longer than your usual ld’s?
6A In 3 of them I was rubbing my hands from time to time in order to stay lucid. In some others, I was staring regularly at my hands. Generally, they are dreams in which I’ve a good lucidity level from the beginning (enough to remember I’ve to look at my hands ).
I’d say my LD average is about thirty minutes, since I have LDs ranging from 1 second to 4 hours. (regardless of content)
It isn’t length I focus on, but the dream content. I just happened to be interested and then liked this one dream and went with it. My first LD was probably like 3 minutes.
Four hours, went into SP at 2 a.m. woke up at six something. (it was the mixture of a dream saga and…something else )
Every couple of months
It was probably longer because I kept my lucidity but allowed myself to be engulfed by the dream scene.
Especially in the beginning I actively tried to prolong them. Afterwards, I just let them develop naturally (however, always when I become lucid, I rub my hands shortly, just to make sure the LD is stabilized enough to proceed). Yes there has been an increase in length, especially if I’m having them very often. After a drought, they usually tend to be shorter in the beginning, but afterwards, when going back to the normal LD rate, they grow longer again. I contribute it mostly to the increased stability of the LDs, which in effect is probably the result of an accomodation to the LD state through practice and experience. The more LDs you have, the more the brain gets used to the lucid state, so generally the more stable your dreams should become. Ofcourse, expectations and associations also play a role, so you have to control these a little bit. I’ve also noticed that it helps not to think too much about stabilizing the dream, but just enjoy the show. Don’t wish to control too much, but let the dream surprise you. Play a bit with your participation within the dream and observe what happens. This natural flowing of the dream events seem to have (at least in my case) a general stabilizing effect on the LD.
About 30 minutes
Back in the glory days, about once in a few weeks. Now it has been quite some time (I’m having a lower LD rate for months now). I think the last one was a lucid nightmare I had in the beginning of January.
