I’m not a lucid dreamer, and I probably never will be. But I’ve been having strange dreams lately that are somewhat abnormal. In these I have this great sense that what is happening is not reality, and I act as if I cannot die and there’s no consequences for my actions. Yet I don’t believe that I’m dreaming. The sense I get is “This is a giant virtual reality video game that I’m playing” or “This is a television show and I’m only a character.” and sometimes I even have periods when I’m out of the simulated reality, and when I am inside of it. So in effect I can do whatever I want to within the ‘simulation’ but it’s not a lucid dream in the technical sense of ‘dreaming while knowing that you are’ but it is not normal. It’s almost like some sort of twilight zone in between a lucid dream and a normal dream. And then sometimes I’ll get this sense that something’s wrong with ‘reality’ and I’ll just sit still for the entire time. What would you call these?
This is my first post after a LONG absence, I never really got into dreams until recently.
If you were consciously directing the dream, but come up with a “virtual reality” rationalization, then I guess you can call it a low level lucid dream. Actually i started having those dreams just before I began having real high level LDs… so probably you’ll have a real lucid dream soon so don’t say you probably will never be a lucid dreamer. You are much closer than you think.
These dreams are a sign that you’re on the verge of having a ‘real’ LD .
Also, don’t say you’ll never be a LD’er. Anyone can be one - but having a negative attitude like that will just hinder your progress. Have happy thoughts .
HousesOfApollo, these dreams you have are called “pre-lucid” dreams, and are a sign that you are probably pretty close to having a real LD. You just have to make that “small” step into realizing that the dream is a dream. I often have these pre lucids, acting like I am superman etc, and mostly I get a real LD pretty soon afterwards. MILD helps me pretty good in these cases. Good luck with it!
