Hey!
I just had a dream in which i throw myself willingly of a cliff and THEN i become lucid. It usually happens the other way around for me.
Anyways, before that, during the climbing i was walking pretty fast, outrunning the other climbers and i was saying to myself “i’m imagining this!”. However, it did not occur to me that it was a dream. I was thinking that this was all in my head, therefore it wasn’t real, therefore it’s ok to walk very fast!!
Has this happened to anyone? How can you use this to become lucid?
Hi Onyricon!
Your experience seems to be not very common. It’s a sort of pre-lucid dream. Does it happen very often to you that you dream you’re imagining something ?
It’s not very common, but it does happen from time to time and doesn’t always end up with a LD.
I found this post later. It’s the same kind of experience
[url]Aware that it is not real, but unaware that I'm dreaming.]
I had another one two days ago when i dreamt about a midget walking on the edge of a fence and i thought i was watching television!! It was, as you said, pre-lucid cuz i soon realised it was a dream! Yey!!
Sorry, I didn’t explained my thought very well. I didn’t mean that pre-lucid dreams were’nt common: they are common. But I feel that thinking “i’m imagining this!” in a dream is very strange.
Generally, as HousesOfApollo said, in pre-lucid dreams you explain the inconsistencies by thinking it’s a movie or a video game, etc.
Still, congrats for having changed your PLD in LD !
Thanx!
I really wasn’t refering to prelucid dreams in general, but the “i’m imagining this” dreams. They happen from time to time, but they are similar to prelucid ones in the sense that “i know this isn’t real”.
Maybe i too didn’t explain myself very well .
What i meant to say with “i’m imagining this” is this:
In RL when you think about something you have to do, you picture something inside your head …a faint image. If you have to wash the dishes and you think about this you see yourself entering the kitchen, or perhaps you see yourself putting some detergent on the dishes or maybe remember a time when you washed the dishes, and see yourself re-doing the memory. This usually happens in the first person for me.
In my dream, i was at the base of the mountain, and thought “How could i climb this?”. And then i saw myself, through my eyes-in the first person, climbing the mountain. I was thinking i was doing an imaginary route, and that’s why i wasn’t alarmed when i was walking very fast on some portions.
It was like a day-dream only it felt more “real”, because it was a real dream
Hope this makes sense, i’m not very good at explaining in english
LOL ! So it was a day-dream in a night-dream !
It makes sense. And your english is far better than mine !
I’d say that to become lucid by throwing yourself off a cliff is pretty unusual. In our non-lucid dreams we usually believe that we are awake and not dreaming at all ( otherwise all our dreams would be lucid if you see what I mean). Thats why in non-lucid dreams we normally treat cliffs and other dangers with the same degree of caution that we do while awake. So for me, to throw myself from a cliff in a non-lucid dream would be the same as doing it in reality - not something I’d do unless I’d had enough of this life.
Do you think you may have experienced a degree of low-level lucidity just before you took the plunge? It could have been just enough for you to already suspect that you were dreaming. I get this kind of low-level level lucidity in my dreams quite often. Sometimes it develops in to a full-blown lucid and other times not.
You’re right! As Basilus West said, and as i realised later, it was a sort of very low-level LD.
The cause of me jumping off the cliff was me thinking “this isn’t real”. . But it didn’t occured to me at first that this is a real dream…just a day-dream .
It was very unusual for me also…
