Can someone help me with WILD please?

Hello, I’ve been working on my DR and I’ve been performing RCs all throughout the day, and I want to try incorporating an induction technique into my lucid dreaming quest.

I’ve read the guide on this site, and watched a few videos on how to WILD on YouTube, but I still want to know some stuff first before trying.

1: What is the recommended time after falling asleep to perform WILD? A lot of videos say to wake up 4-6 hours after going to sleep, but would it be better to wake up later rather than sooner, so the REM stage is longer in the case that I DO get into a lucid dream?

2: Do you have to have woken directly from a dream to successfully do WILD? A lot of the videos and guides say that you should be seeing HI if you manage to stay conscious past the ‘roll’ and ‘itch’ signals, but when I woke up in the middle of the night last night at 4:00am (about 5-5.5 hours after originally going to sleep), and tried going back to bed, I didn’t feel the need to roll over or itch before going to sleep again.

3: Should I keep my eyes shut while doing WILD? As in, from the point that I start laying still, should I keep my eyes shut to watch out for the HI?

Thanks to anyone that helps!

Hey Liam,

From what I gather, after 4.30/6 hours is good, just go with one and don’t stress it. Personally, waking up to late gets me panicky about running out of time and is counterproductive, unless of course you don’t have to get up at a specific time, then do what you feel works for you.

Don’t worry about longer REM, just worry about getting there first, the excitement could end it prematurely anyway, so just try get there first.

You don’t need to be woken from a dream for WILD to work, I think that suits, MILD better.

And everyone’s sensations of WILD will be different, so you may not get itches or a need to rollover I think.

I would have thought your eyes closed for WILD would be preferable, but don’t know if others do it differently.

Just my thoughts, hope this helps.
