Complex problem: Can you help me?!

About 2 years ago, when I learnt about lucid dreaming for the first time, I was very excited by the vast possibilities. I looked at many sites, and one day I was looking at what books there were on the subject on amazon. I found a book about lucid dreaming and OBEs. Then I went into another room, leaving the page open. While I was away, my dad looked at what I had been reading, and called me. I went to him, and he told me that I wasn’t allowed to look for anything on OBEs or other weird ‘paranormal’ things. He said OBEs and other ‘paranormal’ things were controlled by demons (he was a Jehovah’s Witness (I wasn’t allowed to have a birthday party, or have christmas  )) and that these activities were dangerous.

2 years later, not much has changed. Even though he isn’t a JW, he still thinks lucid dreaming and OBEs are dangerous. This is causing complications: I can’t do WBTB with an alarm clock, since he would ask me why I made it ring so early/late, and autosuggestion is hard for me. I really want to achieve WBTB, which is considered the easiest technique. Help me, I beg you!

(PS: No, I can’t tell him lucid dreaming isn’t dangerous, otherwise he would suspect me of lucid dreaming, and ban me from the computer. Yes, this is very complicated  )

There is an other way to try WBTB without alarm clock… since alarm clocks can destroy your dream recall it’s maybe good to try something else to wake up.
First of all affirmations ‘‘I will wake up after EVERY dream and remember them’’ if you keep repeating that, soon or later, you will wake up in the middle of the night, after your rem-period. Then you can get something to drink, go to the toilet - whatever, your dad will not be mad for those reasons.
If affirmations doesn’t work, you can drink A LOT before bedtime… a lot of chance you will wake up because you have to go to the toilet - for real. :content:

Good luck!

Get him on this computer in the chat and I will give him a piece of my mind! [com](no offence )[/com]

you may also be able to get a wristwatch that has an alarm, or maybe if you have a cell phone use the alarm on it and set it to vibrate. You should respect you elders, regardless of how ridiculous he is being.

:lmao: !! tell him that you will try to get rid of these demons by becoming lucid and fighting them off once and for all!

Ok, I’ll try those tonight!

Ok, I have a watch. I’ll try that soon!

:woo: Yeah, pretty paradoxal, huh?
But seriously, his “religion” (cult, rather) ruined most of my life. Not being able to go to my classmates’s birthdays, to party on Christmas, Easter, Halloween, being forced to go to their meetings every thursday and sunday where they speak cryptic blabla, having them come over every tuesday, not being able to be a normal kid ruined my whole life, and made me ashame and very shy. It’s only now I’m starting to overcome my shyness. He has ruined my whole life and, in fact, continues to, but doesn’t see the extent of the damage he has done on me. There’s so much pressure on me nowadays (school is becoming overwhelming), that I have had suicidal thoughts. Don’t worry though, I won’t. I won’t let him ruin the rest of my life. I’ll fight back  thanks.

That must suck not being allowed to do something as simple as lucid dreaming. My family doesn’t really care, they just think I’m crazy or something

If the WBTB is impossible or difficult to do, you could attempt to use auto-suggestion techniques. Over time, you may become more receptive to it. You could also try using the WILD method, although it is a bit difficult. I have been trying it for the past few days and I have had little success with it. It makes it easier to do when you wake up 5-6 hours later since REM cycles get longer, but it is not impossible to do going to bed the for the first time of the night. I’ve heard that combining WBTB with one of those is very effective.

I hope you can find a method that works!

If you are only 13, you have much more ahead of you. I guarantee you I had a worse childhood. I was shy/introverted at your age. Now, I give speeches in front of about 1000 people weekly. I have played in concert solos/sports events, with 10,000s of people only looking at me. The majority of the most successful people in this world had a rough childhood. They fought back at it with all they had in them, which pushed them to that extra level to achieve what they had always desired. Life changes, simple as that. Don’t let your childhood define who you are, because you will find that you will change throughout your life, with new opportunities around every corner. Step up and take charge of your life, because you are the only one who can.

Thank you, that was very inspiring.

Hope everything goes well.
Also, your post reminds me of this clip from the movie Waking Life.
P.S. No, lucid dreaming and OBEs is not controlled by demons, it is controlled by none other than you, and your subconscious mind. Peace ;D

Your father sees demons? Tell him to go talk to them and he’ll see that they aren’t all that bad as the holy book says they are :content:. If he actually goes to look for demons to talk to, be sure to record it on video and show it to all of us  and then you probably sent him on a wild goose chase(or however that saying goes)because odds are that those demons don’t even exist and you’ll get rid of him without having to resort to murder or ridiculous suicide.
In the end you’d be free of your father and we’d get to laugh at a fool who looks for invisible demons to talk to .

And about the whole “Respect your elders” thing. It is something you should tell children. That is important. But later, when you can see the world through the eyes of at least a confused teenager instead of those of a dumb child, respect has to be earned. That, I said assuming that the parents are not legal nutcases and actually know how to raise a child.

Oh, and yes, your life is still way ahead of you :content:… unless you will die by a freak accident :hmmm:… which probably is not very likely :shy:.

If you really want to do WBTB method, I suggest you get a wristwatch as someone above said.I have it, and I never ever take it off.Well, the problem is, I don’t always wake up when it rings, actually rarely wake up.But another watches might have louder alarms.Besides, WBTB isn’t the only method, even tho many people say it’s the most effective one.I never tried it myself(i got my own reasons). You should try MILD or WILD, or just strictly repeat ‘‘I will have a lucid dream.’’ or something like that.

You could also try to tell your dad you don’t believe in that and that it’s nothing bad.But I don’t know your dad, only you can know if it will work.

And btw, you’re not a jehovah’ witness?so, are you a christian?
