To me the definition of daydreams was never really clear.
Today I had a strange experience.
It was in school, the first period. I didn’t sleep very long and I was really tired. During a short break I laid my head on the table and closed my eyes.
Thoughts were rushing through my head combined with the loud noises from my classmates and the teacher. At one point I remember to have dreamed something. But it wasn’t a normal dream it was very unclear but vivid however. It was more like my usual thoughts but I didn’t had any control over them. And of course it wasn’t a deep “sleep” I was always conscious and cautions, ready to open my eyes at any second if the teacher decided to continue with the class.
I’d really like to know some information or/and theories about what was going on in my head during those 7 minutes.
Is this by definition a daydream?
<of course this wasn’t the first time that happened to me, it happens about every day when I drive to school and before I fall asleep but this incident happened very very fast>
Yeah, same thing happens to me at camp when I go to sleep at 11 and get up at 6 every day. What happens is this- normal sleep cycle
-------------------=sleep ____________________-=awake
required 8-10 hours of sleep
Deep sleep REM DS REM DS REM DS REM
this is what happens to you
required 8-10 hours of sleep
------------------------------_________________
DS REM DS REM DS REM REM REM
so while youre awake youre having REM stages, so youre basically having a dream while being awake. This is not healthy, not normal, and it means you’re not getting enough sleep.
Hope I helped
[EDIT]By the way, the DS here means deep sleep, not dreamsign
thx for the reply. I figured it was REM sleep. But was it what you call a daydream?
lol, true. I didn’t get enough sleep that night.
but, as I was saying this happens to me when I fall asleep, when I take a nap in the train or at home. The effect that the SC picks up my line of thoughts and continues them so I fall asleep is very normal to me. If it’s unhealthy- well I’ll be the judge of that
