Defeating fears in dreams

I’m wondering about the possibility of getting over a real world fear using your dreams.

Like for example I have a very bad public speaking fear.

Now, I know I could summon up a stadium and imagine up a crowd and speak in front of them. But what I’m wondering about is different.

Now before I pose the question, keep in mind that I do not believe in lucid dreaming as a “spiritual experience” or anything like that. But I do believe in the power of the human brain and that your dreams are part of your subconsciousness.

That being said I read a post that someone met a dream character that was supposed to be their fear of something.

Wether I believe that’s true or not I don’t know. But do you think it’s possible to somehow override your subconscious minds fear of different things?

And thoughts on this would be helpful!

Note: I mean no offense to those that believe in the things I don’t. To each his/her own.

well ofcourse thats just another reason people love to lucid dream

I think it’s totally possible to get over a fear. Specially something like public speaking. I don’t like (hate) speaking in public either. Actually, even little groups of people makes me uncomfortable. In one LD I said to a group of about 8 people “Guys! This is a dream! You are DC’s!” And I felt that little cold feeling in the stomache, little anxiety, simply for being the center of attention! the fact that they were DC’s and didn’t physically exist didn’t alter that feeling.

I haven’t spoken in public in a LD yet, but I truely believe it should feel very close to the real thing. It’s easier of course because you know none of it is real… but the experience can feel real. If you practice speaking in public in LD’s you’ll most likelly get used to the feeling of speaking in public, or at least a bit more comfortable with it…

Yes, LDing has been described before as a “psychological ‘perk’ so that you can really go to your ‘control panel’ and get over fears, move on with stuff, etc.” It may take practice, but I think it’s possible :universe:

^ I’ve always wanted to use that emote

When you say “control panel” do you mean that as in lding is a conduit that you can use too face fears or do you mean literaly like you could use it to directly shut off a fear? Like some kind of command implanted into your brain?

I think it’s facing fears.

You can get over any fear or phobia by fixing it somehow in your subconscious.

There are many therapists who can cure phobias and fears. But I read about the ways they do it.One way is to talk to the subconscious.

You can also try this in a dream, because SC is more active in dreams than IRL.
I believe you can do it.

Think of a way.Be creative.

This could be interesting.

Do you think that it could be as simple as like summoning up a “control panel” that says “public speaking fear” and press the off button or would it be more like having to actually talking to like a DC that’s supposed to represent your fear of public speaking?

Try both.

It won’t hurt you.
You could also think of some most creative to get rid of a fear.
Try to have fun.

You could also summon an army and try to kill a huge dragon, and when you kill him, a DC will remove the fear from you.

Or you don’t have to, it’s up to you.Be creative, as I said.
LDs can be really fun.

I’m thinking something simple to experement with.

I was thinking of summoning up a person that will represent my fear of speaking in public.

Now, I don’t believe I’d actually be talking to some actual persona but more along the lines of hoping my mind will understand my intent, kind of like implanting a command to wake up at a certain time and such.

Now what I’m debating is should I try to talk to this person or should I shoot him? Lol

I sometimes have a “what if this isn’t a dream?”-thought in my LDs  Even if i can fly and stuff.

Sorry for the late reply :bored:

By control panel, I meant that since you’re closer to your subconscious, you can sort of command your fears to diminish, or make your dreamscene in such a way that you overcome your fear.

For example, let’s say you’re scared of heights. You LD about skydiving from the edge of space, you experience the rush, BAM heights fear gone!

That’s my theory though, I haven’t tried it though (mostly cause I can’t get lucid :grrr: )

I’ve always been kinda afraid of falling in dreams when I fly… I had a LD I wanted to jump out my window (12th floor) but when I got there it seemed much higher and got scared  I later noticed that that dream fear of falling symbolized a real life fear. So in my next LD I jumped off a building  It wasn’t very vivid but still… after that I’ve been feeling my real life fear a bit… less active. It might just be a placebo effect, but still interesting

Yeah, LDs are amazing
