In dreams, lucid and non-lucid, I have been to familiar places, but there are many things about them that are different from in real life.
Here’s an example: Once, I had a dream that I was at my apartment complex. It was pretty normal, but there was one big difference. Instead of having the usual two story layout, there was an additional underground level added. In the courtyard, there were several stairways leading underground. The lower level was interesting. There were apartments there. Apartments underground. I doubt the people living down there would be very lucky in a power outage. The hallways down there that contained the apartments were very maze-like.
If you have had any interesting dreams like this, please tell.
This is one of the things i find really interesting about dreams - the way our minds jumble things up.
A long time ago i dreamt i was in my Nan’s bungalow but then i found myself going up some stairs which lead to the upstairs of my step grans house. Nothing seemed odd to me at the time.
Locations are always changing in my dreams but i never get lucid from it My lucidity mostly comes from nowhere with no obvious triggers.
My dreams like to merge various settings, probably for convenience. Half the time it ends up looking like some kind of Hollywood set where everything’s connected and you can step from the attic of your house into a school hallway. <<
The small town where I grew up has always looked different in dreams, and the differences are always the same. There is a hidden underground street under it, and the entrance is always close to the cement factory. The street has all kind of shops, but it is almost impossible to bring anything from it back up.
The harbour area is also different, it has a “scrap” area where we can find things thrown away on the beach. It is bigger than IRL, and there is a night club there that would be impossible IRL in a small town like that.
Close to my parents’ house, there is a small forest covered peninsula that is probably my most common dream location. The differences are always the same here, too: the west side is full of fruit trees, the east side usually has some kind of tourist facility and there is something magical hidden in the middle.
Have you ever had that kind of dream where one place represents another? For example, different streets in a city can represent different countries, and in the dream, we actually cross a border by walking into another street…
Yes, I’ve had that with my old school and college. I’ll be with school mates and we’re in our twenties (they still look the same though as i haven’t seen many of them since ) but are going back to education for a year. It’s supposd to be at our senior school which we went to from age 11-16 but it gets muddled a lot with the college building and i’m acting like i did at 15. It ought to be a dreamsign for me because i’m always having dreams like this.
