Does THIS remind you of anything?

I don’t know if this is the right topic, because I think it might be related to other topics, but I wanted to know how many people would catch on. I wanted to know if they thought the same thing that I thought when I first read this article.

Note that this was pulled from Gerd Gigerenzer’s Gut Feelings released 2007.

“…In the Bavarian town where my grandfather lived, people often had difficulties in sleeping and woke up from nightmares, which made them dread falling asleep again. The cause of this widespread suffering was common knowledge: a witchlike being, with hairy hands and feet, called the Trud. In the night, while you slept, she would sit on your chest so heavily that you could barely breathe…” (pp. 223-4)

Remind you of anything?

Yup, there’s a funny thing about science: it tends to overlook folk lore, when some times persistent weird belief does have scientific roots. Many mythologies try to explain the hag in some fasion.

[The BIG sleep paralysis and old hag topic Part III)

another version i heard of was Baba Haga (notice the Haga  )

that’s an easily recognizable one (at least for me)

I think (and don’t quote me on this) it was a chinese witch who gave people nightmares

Isn’t it “Yaga”? Or is that what you meant purposely?

Yeah, no grandma Trud is giving us the hag.

… nope, not ringing a bell

Baba Yaga! That was it! :ack:

my mistake. but yeah that still sounds like it
