Does your subconscious forget?

I am new to this forum, and I’m not sure I’m posting in the right section, but I need advice.
I learned about Lucid Dreaming about 8 years ago reading online, and was fascinated. I began researching, dream journaling, and using several techniques to try to gain lucidity in my dreams. For three months I diligently tried and never had a LD. I gave up. A week ago, without as much as a thought about LDing, I took a nap, and had my first LD. It was amazing! Very detailed, with a pretty high level of control and awareness. I even felt myself waking up and managed to go back into the dream still lucid! I had one problem in my dream.
I wanted to see someone I hadn’t seen in quite a few years. I began looking for them, and every time I thought I’d found them, their features would morph into someone else. They looked similar to the person I was looking for, but it wasn’t him. I tried to will each person into being him, but I couldn’t. Could this be because my subconscious forgot what he looks like? It has been a long time since I’ve seen him, but I can remember what he looks like in my concious mind. How can I stop this from happening again if I am lucky enough to have another LD? It was very frustrating. Thanks in advance for any insight

Moved from Quest for Lucidity since it’s not about inducing lucidity :mattias:

Hello Seraphine. Congratulations for your first and unexpected LD

Regarding to your question, I don’t think so. Our conscious mind and our subconsciousness share the same memories. What I think is that, being your first LD, you still aren’t very good in controlling it.

I’ve noticed one thing in what you wrote. If you doubt even a little that you will be able to do something, then you won’t be able to do it. Apparently to each person you looked at, you asked yourself: “It’s him/her? Maybe it’s not…” - I think this “maybe” was the doubt that kept you from being successful in your objective.

I’m sure that, with experience, you’ll manage to find that person in a future dream. Good luck

Ahh! I didn’t think of that! I can’t wait to try again! Thank you so much for your insight and support
