Dream Avengers?

I was reading something in LaBarge’s work and it had something to do with killing characters in your dream. Apparently killing certain types of people can lead to “dream avengers”, agressive dream characters taking on a seemingly vengful role in your dreams in order to get back at you for what you’ve done.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this? I’m just curious.

Yep.

My SG and a bunch of guys ganged up on me in a ND and stoned me. (threw a bunch of rocks at me.) It really hurt. And they kept laughing!

The initial idea is from Paul Tholey. The real quotation is:

I’ve had one LD in which I killed many people. I never saw dream avengers in the following LD’s. And I’ve read a DJ in which a LD’er killed lots of people and she never saw avengers.

So, this may be the matter for group psychology. When a little LD’ing group shares a belief within members, this belief is likely to produce effects on LD’s. For instance, if an opinion leader says that lights switchs don’t work in dreams, they won’t work for every dreamer in the group. I suppose that it happened with Tholey’s group.

I suppose that “the avenging being done in a normal dream” says something about the individual in question. Perhaps its something like “Heej! Ego! This is how it feels to be bullied!”

It seems logical that they would try to avenge in a ND sine you have no control. In a LD you could always fight back.

IMO so-called “dreams avengers” are a LD’ing feature. As we have tons of ND’s, some of them funny, some of them strange or nightmarish, we can always interpret one of them in the way we want, so I wouldn’t take this in account. And as I suppose people dreams are related to their personnality traits, people who enjoy to kill everybody in their LD’s have naturally violent ND’s, so I don’t see any dream revenge in this phenomenon.

Moreover, I quoted Laberge on purpose in my previous post, cause it was clearly said that “aggressive attacks on dream characters can result in feelings of anxiety or guilt”. So, first of all, it’s related to guilt. It was the case in Tholey’s experiments because:

  • he asked his fellow dreamers to do things they wouldn’t have done naturally in LD’s.
  • these experiments were done in an anxious mood because they were persuaded that it could trigger psychosomatical problems.

Eventually, I don’t remember having seen any account of dream avengers in DJ’s.

Yeah it would make sense. If you normally don’t harm people in your dreams, when you finally do, you may experience guilt or anxiety over the situation, especially when it’s against your personality.

Also I read that the revenge isn’t always immediate…that is, if you are aggressive in one dream, the avenger may take form in another dream.

Same as my signature, believe it and it happens, placebo effect. But still, very interesting. Forcing yourself to kill someone in an LD, that’s kinda creepy. Of course, now that I’ve read this topic, if I did it… I’d DEFINATELELY get Dream Avengers!
