First of all, I recently started getting serious about my DJ, i was doing it weekly/monthly for the last few months, but for the last week I’ve been recording my dreams daily. And they’re still really fuzzy, and I have a hard time remembering them. Alot of the time I remember fragments, not necessarily in order or anything, but I can’t seem to get it completely. So what I’m asking, is how long would it take of writing a DJ daily to get my dreams completely vivid and easily remember them as if it happened in WL?
Second of all, I write my dream journals sort of like a narrative, ex: “I walked to the couch, and sat down.” But i saw some DJ’s on here, and they’re written in a way that’s like making it present tense. And what I’m wondering is, would it matter which writing style someone chose to write they’re DJ in?
It can vary on how long it takes to improve DR. You may notice an increase in frequency already, but often times it takes a bit mroe than just writing in a journal to get an increase in vividness. First off, it helps a lot to wake up about 5 1/2 hours after you first fall asleep. While you may or may not remember dreams from before this early awakening, you’re much more likely to remember dreams -and vividly- after. It basically helps raise awareness.
Also, if you want your dreams to be more detailed, you need to start concentrating on details. When you write in your journal make sure you write the kinds of things you want to remember the most. Also, try to pay more attention to details in RL as this will tranfer into your dreams.
As for what tense you write in, it doesnt make a huge impact. I use present tense because I try to recall my dreams in present tense. It seems to help my brain get the idea that it should be recording dreams as they happen. I feel I don’t have to think as hard when I wake up because it’s like it just happend. When I think of dreams in past tense the seem distant. But in regards to my writing, I could easily convert it to past tense and it wouldn’t make a difference. In fact, a lot of times I will for LD’s just to show that I think differently once I’m lucid. I guess an LD feels a bit more like a “real” memory to me .
