Dream Manipulation Tips?

Hi guys. When I lucid dream, I want to have an adventure. I want to be in a highly populated area where I can have alot of fun, such as a city. Unfortunately, alot of the times I become lucid in a bland world. There aren’t many people walking around and the scenery is dull. I have a vision in my head but whenever I try to manipulate the world, I just make things worst. For instance, alot of the times I try to raise a city out of the ground. I start off by trying to create sky scrapers but when I raise them out of the ground, some parts look right while other parts look like morphed playdoh. Should I even bother trying to morph it directly or should I try another method? Ive heard of other techniques such as walking through doors and closing my eyes and opening them. I have a bunch of scenes in my head, its just a matter of getting to them.

Moved from QFL. :dragon:

In my experience, creating things directly is about the most difficult thing you can do. It’s bad enough on a small scale, let alone the entire world. I change settings by the conventional method - travel. If somewhere is boring, I leave with whatever means I have. Often it’s as simple as walking. Of course, however, if you walk straight out into a bland open area where you can see everything for miles around, it’s probably not going to be very effective. Turning corners that you can’t see around may reveal something hidden, or walking through a doorway into a room might reveal a secret passage leading somewhere more interesting. Why do it the hard way when you can just use your normal human resources such as feet?

The other point to note here is that, by creating things directly, you already know at least vaguely how they’re going to turn out. For someone who wants an adventure, that’s not particularly exciting - how can you discover something really new and unique if you already have the city all planned out in your head? Adventure is about discovering the unknown, so that’s what you should be aiming for.

I hear jumping into a mirror can have an interesting effect.

I haven’t tried to change the landscape before. It seems a bit out of my league. But travel is just as good if you can do it. Flying should be quite effective. But I am no good at flying, can’t control it. But walking through doors I can do. I just start walking through rooms, door after door. Not trying to control where I end up, just walking around until I find some interesting place.
You could try to do it like Hiro and just concentrate on the place, but be careful with closing your eyes! Sometimes it makes you wake up. If you succeed, then (assuming you know who Hiro is) you know what to say.

One tip for changing the scenery is. Wave your hand in fron of stuff. Or just hold it up. If you block the view, it can change more easily because there will not be an need for a special effect. Like a house rising from the ground, with sound effects and all that. it will be more like, not there one econd, and there the next, like it has always been there. Also, looking away and looking back can be effective. I have changed the sky and treelines like that. Or rather requested new ones. If you have an idea of what you are going to see, then it’s more likely to be there.

Actually, I had my first lucid dream this morning and when I first got into the dream I was in a cartoon-like land. (That’s how I realised I was dreaming ). But right when I knew I was dreaming I imagined a portal about 5 feet in front of me that could take me into different worlds. (One being ours which is the one I went into  ). Worked perfectly, but it took me into a war lol.

I have tried to create a city directly before, just to see if i was strong enough to do it.

I wasn’t.

So nowdays if i become lucid outside of where i usually do (my school, which has approximately 1000 students {great fun! :content: } ) i create my broom and fly around. If the area isn’t populated, i summon people into it (mostly my friends). If it’s simply a boring place, i whip out my broom again and fly as far as possible.

Although, due to my more recent experiences with landscaping for games i should really try again with making places from scratch

It seems that the more lucid I am the more populated/detailed/interesting my surroundings are. I had an ultra realistic ld this morning and the detail was amazing.

Finally, somebody says it! This is the main thing I have against LDs in general; dreams are kinda bland if you can do anything you want. It’s like playing a video game with the cheat codes on: sure, it’s fun to do whatever you want for a little while, but once you’ve done everything there is to do and the challenge is dried up, it’s boring. It’s way more exciting to let your mind make up the scenarios, then use LD powers just to add new twists.

I can agree with that. Recently I had an LD where all I did was just sit on a swing and admire the scenery. It was a nice, clean neighborhood, and the detail on the houses and grass was amazing. Watching the clouds move and a “For Sale” sign swing in the breeze, I reflected on how my mind could create all this out of nothing. It seems like my subconscious mind is way better at creating things than my conscious mind ever could be.

My only experience with dream manipulation was with my first lucid dream. I was in a packed school assembly and I was in the middle with everyone staring at me. I got lucid by reading the text on some huge projection screens, then I tried to make everyone disappear. It was actually kind of simple, all i did was know what i wanted to do then I looked at the ground and when I looked up everyone was gone. I think intent and simplicity are the keys to manipulation, at least in my experience.

Hah, you have it completely backwards compared to myself. Only my fuzzy LDs ever have characters or new areas. Most of my perfectly clear real looking LDs start in my own bedroom, and they always take place somewhere familiar. Just once, I need to remember to try stepping through my mirror and seeing what happens. Because I’m sick of running around the area around my own house, even though it is always interestingly different.

Have you ever played Sim City? After creating a few cities in a game, it could be easier to do it in a dream.

Why not draw the scene you want to build, and then teleport yourself into it? Or summon a map of it in your pocket, and teleport into that? Maybe if you look close in your pockets, there will be a bus or train ticket to your city. You could summon or steal a helicopter, create your city from above in sim city style, and land in the middle of it.

Agreed. I’ve had no problem manipulating the environment (although I can’t yet change it completely) but whenever I become lucid, my dreams lose all plot and character, and it’s just me, in a pretty boring environment (if I even get any vision at all). I’ve never seen a DC when lucid - they all seem to vanish. BUT I have a hint to change the entire scene of an area. Instead of trying to visualise the scene (which I found difficult), try getting the sound right first. So, if you want a busy city, concentrate on the sound of heavy traffic before trying to make the buildings appear. The closest I’ve come to changing the scene was when I worked the sound out first before going onto visuals.

Well kudos to you for trying! When I used to be very new to LD’s I had the nastiest time doing anything consistantly. If I were you I wouldn’t bother with such big things right now. Personally I have never really had the impetus to go new places. All of the time for me I’m someplace new and exciting with people I do and do not know. I think that for you… You might want to make a door. Don’t use a door that is already there. Make your own. One time I was in a hilly grassland with a pond. With a little effort I created a massive opening with two hinged doors. and here is something I cannot say enough when going to worlds you’ve created. Know them inside and out. the more you know the world the easier it is to get to it and stay in it. In any event create the door and then walk through it with the knowledge that, “I am going to…”. But if you really want adventure create the new place and roll with it! What better a place to investigate than a building made of play-doh? Or a subway with a party in it? Like I said, I personally make the best of where I am… Good times… good times

As for dream manipulation sometimes when I am getting into a lucid state I find that using my hands work well. If it’s stormy I will wipe away the clouds, or use my fingers to move objects about. The art of perspective often comes in handy; if there were a mountain blocking my path I would stand facing it directly and hold my hands facing each other on each side and then compress them; and watch as the mountain shrinks. Words are also good for manipulating. I was talking with a DC one time and they did not like the rain so I taught them a song that made the sun come out.

But on topic, as for travel, I think many have said the doorway technique, which I have not had much luck with myself. I like to follow paths. They usually tend to lead places that are populated, especially well traveled paths, and if you ever get lost you can always summon forth a guide to direct you to a destination.

gl in dreamland!
