I wasn’t sure where to post this but here goes…
The one thing I’ve noticed in my on and off lucid practices over the years is that when I start with dream recall a bad side effect seems to occur. Most nights i either remember no dreams, or only one dream. But when I work on dream recall occasionlly I can recall as many as four or five dreams in a single night, in fact I just started my lucid practices again, and starting with dream recall I was reminded of this, this morning. I had four dreams that I remember, and one or two more I remember but can’t recall any details of. Of course this morning I woke up with a terrible headache, and this happens almost everytime I remember more than one dream. Am I getting too much REM sleep and not enough deep sleep, is my mind processing too much information, or am I just not used to remembering this many dreams? Is there a cause and is there a cure I guess is what I’m asking, because I really don’t want to have to take IBUprofein every morning I remember my dreams (though my headache is getting slightly better as they day goes on without it) But anyway, has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
I’ve never experienced this, (and I don’t take tablets to help my dream recall).
I can usually remember only two of the longest dreams, though there have been occassions when i remember 4 or 5 dreams. I usually forget them a few minutes into the day and only remember the long ones.
The headache is probably from trying too hard to remember them . Though I could be wrong anyway…
I don’t take any kind of pill to help with dream recall or lucidity, I see it as kind of a copout and ruining the fun of developing skills without meds, and i don’t like the idea of whatever side-effects there might be. But as far as remembering dreams I find that all I have to do is keep a dream journal and read it at least part of it before bed and its easy, as far as forgetting short ones throughout the day I just write them all down first thing when I get up in the morning, before I do anything else, and this helps me too because it helps me to get up earlier in than morning instead of sleeping in.
If people wake me up too early, particularly if I’m in a vivid dream, I wake up feeling sick and nauseated, sometimes also with a headache. My muscles won’t work properly for about an hour afterwards, as well. It’s awful. The worst part is, the days I get woken up early are always the days I have to be somewhere important, like an exam or work, and it really affects my performance. It even got me fired once because I had to go home in the middle of a shift on a very busy public holiday.
But what can I do? I’ve been to doctors, and they think there’s nothing wrong. I’ve never heard of any “woken up too early in the middle of a dream instead of the end” disease before. So Davious, I share your pain. But no, I don’t know what it is, or what it might be.
Mind you, unlike you, I only ever remember one dream per sleep. The general rule seems to be that the more vivid it is when I’m woken up, the sicker I feel. The only exception to that was my first lucid dream, where I woke up early but felt perfectly well and wide awake. Everything else was bleuuuurgh.
