Dream Recall

I’m still working on dream recall, due to the fact that in “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming”, it says to work on this first, until you can remember at least one dream per night. How many dreams do you experienced dreamers typically remember in one night?

My average seems to be between 3 and 4 dreams per night. On good nights I can have as many as 8 and on bad ones 0.

I usually get 2-3. On nights like this when I don’t sleep very well, I can get 5-6 short ones.

My is very varied. Some times it’s only one (though on really bad nights, none) whilst on other it may be up to seven.

Interesting. Thanx, guys. I just needed to know kinda what to shoot for.

and you guys got so good at this how?
i can remember maybe 2 per week… so whats the secret?

just keeping a journal and eventually i will get good?

Yea, that’s another good question, I suppose. I just assumed it would improve with practice.

It really helps a lot ! Have a dream journal and write down everything you remember about your dreams, even if it’s just a dream fragment. Another (very efficient) technique : before going to sleep, repeat yourself mentally : “Tomorrow morning, I’ll remember my dreams”. This and a DJ will increase your dream recall dramatically.

Thanx, Basilus West!

My dream recall increased quite fast for some reason, must be that I was really motivated to remember my dreams. I could probably remember an average of 1-2 dreams/night the first week I tried. And after about 2 months I could pretty much remember atleast one dream/night and an average of about 3/night.

I also used “I will remember my dreams” and I also tried waking up during the night so I would remember more dreams.

Same here, JaRoD. I used the same technique.

seandop, as soon as you awaken in the middle of the night, before your attention goes to anything else, remember your last dream and then record it in first person with present narrative. First person and present seem to bring me back into that dreamstate, mentally, and I remember even more details as I write. Now it is important that you record the dream, atleast a rough outline of notes, as soon as you awaken. No matter how clear the memory is in your mind, or how detailed, it will quickly recede mostly (if not completely)by the time you awaken in the morning.

For your info I remember 2-3 and sometimes 4 dreams regularly.

How do you guys have time to write down your dreams? when I have a vivid dream, I can write about 3-4 pages about the dream. I dont have the time to do that every morning…

I usually make notes about the dream… a few words… and then either in my lunch break or later that night I will record my dreams in my journal. I will have 3- 4 dreams per night on average. It takes a bit of discipline (Fortunately not too much!!), but its worth it.

Well, my problem is, that I don’t realize that I’m awake in the middle of the night, when I am. In fact, I don’t ever remember waking up in the night. How can I help this? :eh:

When I have a really long dream I write down about 0.5 to 1 a4 pages. But those long dreams are rare, so it doesn’t take that long for me to write down my dreams. Usually I write a bit less than half a page for a complete night.

How can you ever realize you’re dreaming if you can’t train yourself to realize you have awoken in the midst of the night?

I write down the key words of the dream to remember it, usually 5-8 that will keep it in your memory.

Then how do you know you do?

If you want to wake yourself up during the night, try setting an alarm clock or drinking water before bed. If you only want to remember waking up, try writing a note to yourself about remembering to realize you are awake and stick the note in a place you think you will look. If, after doing this, you don’t think you’ll remember it when you wake up in the morning, write something in your dream journal (or on just scratch paper if you don’t have a dream journal) telling that you did this.

Good idea.

That may be a good idea to try, however, I don’t know if
I’ll be concious enough to actually want to sit up and write something down. I’ll try though. Oh, and how I know I wake up is just from the very extensive reading I’ve done on LDs and dreaming that says that it is normal to wake up periodically throughout the night and then immediately go back to sleep. I’m definately not normal, but I think this probably applies to me too. Oh, and the note? How can I see a note in the dark when I wake up? I’m not trying to shoot down your suggestions or sound sarcastic, these are just honest ?'s. :om:
