i am getting frustrated. a common dream theme for me is being at my grandmas house. i have very vivid dreams every night and most of the time i find myself at my grandmas house at some point. i always tell myself that when i visit my grandmas house in my dreams i will become lucid or i’ll do an RC… but i never do, and i never become lucid. you think that i would, seeing how in real life i live 400 miles from my grandmas house… it’s frustrating. what else can i do to realize that i am in a dream when i visit her house in my dreams. i would say that i find myself there in my dreams at least 4 to 5 nights a week. help please…
I have places I “haunt” in my dreams this way also… I’ve come to think of it as; these are places that I have deep roots, so no wonder I find myself there in dreams.
So maybe don’t be too hard on yourself about this repeated dreamscape… it shows you where you have roots. As your roots change so will your dreamscape… at least to some degree. There are some persistent dream environments that I frequent that I don’t seem to ever to find myself very lucid in this way… so maybe helps to know you’re not the only one?
Thats true, and try to find other dream signs. What do you do at your grandma’s?
Dreams signs aren’t necessary to achieve lucidity may be you should try to rely on other technique
Look through your dream journal. There are a few different KINDS of dream signs. Some are form based, some are object based, some are thought based. Try and determine your dream signs by looking through your dream journal. What seems out of place, what is a recurring theme? What are your thoughts during your dreams, because I find that my thinking patterns are wildly different in my dreams as opposed to my waking life. Try and determine what it is that truly sets apart waking reality to dreaming reality. Once you become familiar with the differences, you will be more able to differentiate between the two states and thus will be able to recognize your dreaming state more often.
One of my dream signs is waking up and writing in my DJ. Its utterly frustrating, because I always think its real.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Becoming lucid is tough. I haven’t had a LD in over two years. Keep doing RCs when you’re awake, keep up your awesome recall, and try some other methods. Who knows, maybe there’s a method that works super well for you that doesn’t involve dreamsigns
I believe that the entire point of recognizing dream signs isn’t simply for a method to gain lucidity. I believe that it is one of the fundamental ways to recognize and realize that there are similarities and dissimilarities between waking and dreaming life. I suppose its not entirely necessary, but I believe if we want to become lucid dreamers than an important thing to realize is to recognize what it is that differs between the waking and dreaming state. So, simply because the dream signs do not prompt you to lucidity, I implore you not to give up and continue working on them and through greater reflection of dream signs you will in turn receive a greater knowledge of the fundamental differences of waking and dreaming life.
