Dream/Sleep researcher job

Hey everyone,

I am looking for information on where/ how to go about getting a career in this feild. There are not many places here in my city that will do it…well there is one clinic but its not very helpful.

Does anyone know if there is a way i can get into studying/researching sleep dreams consciousness rem neuroscience and later states?

That’s a great idea. You can get paid to go to sleep.

Just kidding.

A university psychology course should be where you need to look. After all, you don’t go to a hospital asking to learn to be a doctor, do you?

The Lone Serpent, I recokn

TwilightDreamer, Yes that is my first thought, i am currently taking a year off uni at the moment from bach of business administration.

dont go into a hospital to learn to be a doctor? oh i disagree with that, whats it called…an intermship. But yes i understand where you are coming from, but i need a job in the feild to tied me over while i get study in the required feild. Sigh if only my experience would give me the opps i need

Huh? you’re in the ACT out of all the places to get a scientific job and you cant get one there? Try areas with prestigous/decent universites like AIM, Bond, Sydney, Maquarie etc those things generally attract companies in search of talent and where theres corporations theres, money and where theres money theres other scientists. To be honest though such a field dosent sound very profitable so it will probably be harder than that, if anything you’ll have to apply for a government grant but yeah you need to know-how so i’d simply just go to one.

Getting a scientific job here the ACT is not the hard bit, its getting a job in this feild which is the hard bit. as you know it is not recognised all that well. I know that SA has a few people and UNI that are looking into it.

 see its the areas that most dont see as profitable that the real money can be made just have to learn how to look.

Ill keep looking into it thanks

Actually, this is also my career choice that I’ve been trying to follow for the past 4 years now, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to how to go about it from my stage in life (16 years old) I know a Psychology course in high school would be obvious, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

some adivce for you if i were your age again.

Study a major of chemistry in year 11 and 12
study a high level math class doesnt need to be the highest but high enough so when you get to uni you can understand it
study major or minor of psychology
study biology
work hard in year 11 and 12 to get your score up…what do you call it a bar over there i think. The two years you spend doing it will save you years later down the track.

Then from there i suggest you study a bach of Science with higher study in Neuroscience aiming towards a PHD in sleep research and dream research.

Now because i didnt take my own advice bck then, i am wasting years getting back ontop of things. dont sell your self short your the only one who places limts on your self you can do anything.

When you graduate give me a call, i’ll be in the feild by then i might hire you

Wow… I didn’t expect such a detailed response, thank you TimeLess!

You never know, maybe… :content:

Psychology is very interesting. There should be more classes on it.
