Ive noticed something about dreams, the things we expirance in waking life the most we dont realy dream about…Such as I play alot of chess, but Ive never had a dream about chess. It was about 5 years after I graduated that I started having alot of dreams about being back in school. Now lets say your going down the road in waking life, and you pass a tent set up infront of someones yard, and that night you may have a dream about camping. My theory is that your dreams somehow balance out the time you spend… I cant word this right, but its like your dreams pick out the small stuff in waking life to dream about. I hope that makes sence. So lets say you pass a tent set up in someones yard, and dont give it much thought, go home, and tell yourself that you will have a dream about camping, and tell yourself to do a RC the next time you find yourself camping. Its just a theory, but Im going to give it a try by noticing small details. I think this works, because the brain is dealing with the big expirances in waking life, so just like the unconciousess deals with things through dreams. Things we dont want to deal with it comes out through nightmares, and thing it uses symbals in waking life to do so.
I’m not sure whether or not I would wholly agree with this theory, but it certainly seems to make some sense in my mind. I can see where that sort of thing would be useful to people; for example, you’re working hard to find a solution to a problem and it seems like you’re banging your head against the wall. In reality, the answer is right in front of you, but you keep overlooking it. That night, you dream of finding the solution!
my dreams are full of stuff I experience in waking life. I can see this may seem to be true if someone has poor recall, since you would tend to forget all the boring dreams easily and just remember the more interesting symbolic/strange ones.
I disagree with that theory. In my experience, I dream about the big things in my life a lot. Performing music is one of them. My parents are another. When I have a crush (very big), I have a lot of dreams about him! When I have exams coming up, I often dream about getting my exam results. And the last time I studied abroad at a new university, I had a series of dreams about starting at new universities overseas!
The little things make it in there too, but not nearly as often. My dreams focus so much on relationships, emotions, personal challenges and desires. These stay constant. But the small details get changed, if not completely created anew, which is why so many of my dreams take place in completely unrealistic or fantastic settings.
Your theory only applies to your personal experience, but if there’s one thing I’ve learnt from years of reading various dream journals, it’s that dreams are a highly individual thing. I don’t think that one psychological theory can cover everyone. Biological, yes. But psychology is not something that can be so simply measured.
Last night I was very tired. I was about to fall asleep, when suddenly, I felt like My legs were leaving my body. When i fell asleep, I had a dream about having a lucid dream. (or maybe it was an OOBE???)
Wow, I can really relate to this.
I’ve had thoughts like this as well. I do think that sometimes, my dreams tend to focus on smaller things in life. I rarely dream about relationships, which I find very odd. I have had about 4 remembered dreams involving girlfriends (or hopeful girlfriends ) and I don’t think any of them were particularily centered on said girl.
My dreams seem to focus on a few things: 1. Desires and pleasures 2. My worst fears (fires, weapons, tornados) 3. Random things that I just happen to like (a dream a couple nights ago that included very clear, light blue water, which I like for some reason).
we all have our ways and theories… usually dreams depend on our thoughts… so i dont know what to do with the theory i mean it might work cuz u want it to work!
lol life and dreams! too much ppl
