Dream "Wisps"

So I’ve been relatively inactive in the dream-world for a while, but now that I’m on a wild sleep cycle I thought I would make the most of it by re-starting my dream journal and actively trying to LD again.

No such luck with lucidity yet, but my dreaming has been rather erratic. Often when I wake up I will recall a tiny bit of a dream, a single line or a feeling or a concept. Not much for my poor dream journal (which I do keep in a book next to my bed, not on this forum). I’ve been referring to these as “Dream Wisps” for lack of a better term. Is there any more official term to describe this? I dunno.

Anyways, I have quite a few of these-- anywhere between three and five in a 24-hour cycle, and I usually write down the best description I have of the wisp immediately after waking, which is usually one simple line, like, “A new bed that makes it harder to sleep” and “Preparing for a war of the tribes.” I don’t remember any visuals from the dream, just a feeling or a subject or a single quote I remember a character saying.

I’m really not sure what to make of this. It might just be a matter of poor recall, or there might be something strange going on while I sleep. I do have “full” dreams in addition to the wisps though, at least one a day since I started actively keeping track again.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Any thoughts on what might be causing it?

Thanks guys

I like the word ‘wisps’ it sounds nicer than ‘dream fragments’. I also get both types of dreams, long stories and short ‘ideas’ like these. Maybe they are just connected to different sleep stages.

The same thing happens to me sometimes, but if you have time in the morning, just lay in bed and seriously think backwards. For example, once I woke up from a dream in the morning and all I could remember was this quote: “All soccer moms drive big huge SUV’s” Yeah, that is it, nothing else. But I really wanted to remember the dream so I thought backwards. Who said the quote? Where was I when I heard this? Did I respond? How did I feel when the person said it? And suddenly it was like lightbulb after lightbulb until I remembered almost all of the dream! I remembered that I felt scared when the person said it. And after that, I just asked more questions! It turns out that I was on the side of the highway with my youth pastor when he told me this in my dream. All of the soccer mom’s were in their huge SUV’s and trying to run us down on the side of the road :content:

I hope that works for you, It really works for me almost all of the time. I’d say about 93.3% (repeating of course) :content:
