Dreaming of a place you haven't even been to.

I was wondering something. Could you have a vivid ND or LD about somewhere you haven’t been to.

It seems hard for the mind to create something new altogether. Sure its easy when everything is chaotic, but what if you’re in an LD with a chance to observe the place. Wouldn’t it be taxing for the brain to keep track of every nuance and detail.

Yes that happens, you would be surprised also at the detail that is in such “new” places. As to keeping track of nuance and detail, those 2 are almost always fluid in dreams (also if you dream about a place that you already know of), so a LD about a new place would be no exception.

i almost always dream of places i’ve never been to… especially most of my LD’s are in other places.

Not mentioning the girls we never been with:)Or species even:)

Yeah, it sort of crazy… I have lots of vivid dreams of places I havent been. I remember one dream where it was a peaceful little village surrounded by forsest, the was a BEAUTIFUL fancy stage, but instead of a stage it was just a giant mirror. The curtains were all velvety red, and there were golden designs, and the pillars on either side and above the stage were of marble and had all sorts of wild creature carved into them like bears, unicorns, and birds. And I went to a world behind the mirror (it was kind of like the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe). They gave me this green colored staff which had wing designs on one end, and the people there taught me to fly on it like a broom. It was a really pretty staff too, and when I have a LD I intend to find that staff so I can fly on it like a broom. snickers

Yes, it is amazing what your mind can come up with. It would take a hole thread to describe the places I have been in dreams that do not exist in real life. I have been Everywhere from a typical modern city street to elaborate fantasy worlds.

Usually my indoor place have invisable walls, missing doors, walls where they don’t belong, bad color pallets, and no the walls don’t attach to the ceiling (or there’s no ceiling at all). Usually my outdoor places are perfect.

Well, technically there is no such thing as a ‘new’ place in a dream, simply because everything in your dreams is a product of your knowledge. So a ‘new’ place would ultimately just be an amalgamation of ‘old’ places. This is obvious when you think about it because your mind cannot possibly create something that it has no knowledge of, but it can use known information (colours, textures, animals, etc) to create a seemingly new environment.

Oh, only in every single dream I’ve had in my entire life!! I’m not kidding - even when I dream about a place in real life (which is very rare in itself), it’s distorted and many parts of it are completely new.

But, usually my dream places are completely different. Very, very vivid as well. They often have names and stories, history behind them and everything, not just visual details. But I don’t see why this should seem so strange - when you write a fictional story, you make up the details, so why shouldn’t something similar happen in a dream?

I’d say that 95% of my dreams are in places I’ve never been, Any dream of a place I have been is distorted.

but imagination can do wonders, but I think basicly things you “create” yourself like a fantasy creature is only a mix of what you have seen.

What you have created in your dream might be also stuff you have seen but on subcounciousness level. You dont remember every picture you saw, every shot your brain makes, either in rl or tv.Theres heaps to draw from.

I think about half of my dreams is in a place i have never visited. I have never noticed any difference in vividness.

All of my dreams seem to take in places I do not know of. Rarely do I know right where I am. If it is a place I am familiar with, usually something is out of place or different.
