Dreams - always just memories?

hi!

Well, at nearly all dreams I had yet, It just felt like I was never really in the dream, are dreams only like movies in your head?
How is that in lucid dreams? Are you really “standing” in the dream or do you just do what your subconscious would do?

What I mean with that is if you can really experience your dream, or you just wake up and think when you are remembering it “I were there, then I did that,…” and so on.

I know that are really strange questions, but what I’m meaning is really difficult to formulate :bored:

Thank you for all answers!

Best regards,

hello bravsein
In a lucid dream you are really there making real time decisions. When I wake up I wake up with the full memory of the LD I never have the searching for the memory like I do with normal dreams.

Bravsein, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I can’t describe the feeling either, and thinking about it gives me a headache. But sincle LDs are possible, then there’s your answer.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thank you for the quick answers…
Its a good feeling that someone else also knows what I’m meaning with that

Well, when I have longer, real LDs I will see.

Btw, I think this night I had one of my first Lucid Dreams: I was in Half-Life 2 Deathmatch (map killbox_final), I tried the nose-breathing RC and bang! I knew that I was dreaming, but then it was over.

You got to excited I think. Try not to react so strongly when you realize you’re dreaming. Simply take a deep breath and tell yourself that you are lucid.

And btw, I know what you mean by the whole “movie” thing. Dreams for me used to be like short movies my brain would send to me when I woke up, but ever since I started practicing lucid dreaming I can now really feel that my dream was something I experienced during the night, like I was really there. So I guess it is possible to change.

I have both forms of dreams. The once that you experience, and the stories in your head. I get lucid more often in an experience dream.

I get the whole story thing as well as the experiencing one. But even if I’m experiencing it, sometimes it’s not me actually…just someone I’m playing, I guess.

With NDs, since you aren’t lucid, they are mostly like memories. However, when you improve your recall, simply by keeping a DJ and paying more attention, you tend to have more vivid dreams.

 If they are lucid, you’re doing what you want, since you are lucid. Not your subconscious  However, lucidity varies, so, sometimes, even if you do what you want, you may think differently. I remember once, in an ND, I was looking for a girl. I became lucid, but I still wanted to find her, as if she was real. Dreams are like that.

All dreams are experienced in real time, the thing is that when we’re not lucid, they only show as memories. Try getting an LD and you’ll see the whole “real time dreaming” feeling

Hello!

First I want to thank you for that great post, Rodrigo! :content:

Im already keeping a DJ, and week for week my dreams seem to be a little more vivid, so im on the right way i think…

Yes, I think that’s it: NDs are usually only memories, but sometimes you must experience them in real time, because what would make nightmares to nightmares if they are just memories?

Okay, now I’m relieved, because I already feared that even LDs just are memories and you don’t really experience them!

wow, this perfectly explains what i just experienced. how do you get from the ‘real-time memory’ to full-on dreaming? i was lucid in the memories, i just wasn’t in it.
