Eeek! LD or RL?

Last night I had a LD. I was in my dad’s house. As soon as I realized that I was LDing, I took off my top to help increase lucidy (I wasn’t wearing a coat). Everything got clearer. I was feeling bored so I went outside and started jumping around trying to fly. I climbed up onto my dad’s car and was about to jump off when my dad came and started yelling at me. I did a couple reality checks (holding my nose and trying to breathe, trying to push my fingers through my hand, doing mental math). They all showed that I was awake. I was so scared! I thought I had just done something really stupid IRL.

I ran back inside and did several more RCs, and this time they showed that I was dreaming. Still, I couldn’t convince myself that I was dreaming. I finally woke up, and was sooo releaved.

LDs are no fun when I think I’m awake. I don’t want this to happen again. How do I prevent it???

It’s mostly about self-confidence. Personally, I know that thinking it’s a dream while IRL would never happen to me, so once I get it’s a dream, I never doubt it afterwards. I’ve doubted sometimes that it was a dream too, but a courageous act made me state more clearly my position of dreamer, and reinforce both lucidity and confidence.
For example, I once failed a RC, but was still unsure, so I decided to go for it and went out of my college room barely naked. The dream continued nice and dandy from there.

Thanks! Now that I think of it, I never really would think I’m dreaming IRL. In my next LD, I’lltry to remember that.

I’ve found that once I’m lucid my RC’s don’t work anymore. Maybe its because the logical part of my mind kicks in and tells me it can’t work?

Anywho, that might be what affected you, at least temporarily.

Yeah, I also think it’s your self confidence to determine whether it will succeed or not. Say for example walking through a wall. When you try doing it, it might not work because you unconsciously doubt you can do it and are afraid you’ll get hurt. But if you know you’re lucid, then you know you can’t get hurt in your dreams  Perhaps you could run through without thinking or walk quickly with your eyes closed, I bet that would work. Maybe it’s the fact that your dad yelled at you that your RCs didn’t work, because you unconsciously thought it was real for a moment. Just my opinion on this ^^

I know how this feels like  I would never think I’m dreaming IWL and go outside naked  BUT my problem is realizing that while I’m in the dream. Now I’m sure of it, but in the dream the feeling of “what if I’m not dreaming” is too strong. I’m kind of an insecure person in general, maybe that has to do with it. Hmm

mattias: Me too! I’m very insecure, hesistant, and I always look to someone else rather than myself. If someone asks me if they can pet my dog, I will no doubt say, “Go ahead!” without realizing that I don’t have one. XD

If you don’t mind flying, this could alleviate the problem. Just hover and fly everywhere you go, that should help make up your mind that you are still dreaming.

anyways, an extremely funny episode xD better don’t try to fix the problem so we have something to lough about^^
sryy^^

Anyway, of course, doingimpossible things IWL, like flying or using dream powers, is sure a big help in keeping the thought that you’re dreaming  some people even use dream powers as a RC  so just go for it, affirm it’s a dream by doing dreamy things.
