The newest theory on dreams is that its based on emotions. While we sleep we still feel emotion and it manifests itself as imagery. For example, a moment of deep sadness might be a tidal wave or sheer happiness might be flying. Alot of people report stronger emotions in their dreams and also use them as a dream sign. Milk it for what its worth i think theres probably alot more to it than that. alot i think is created on a higher intellectual level too because concentrating you mind into dream consciously is an decision not an emotion.even though not everybody attempts to enter consciously. i think regular dreams are highly emotional, but your intelligence is heavily clouded, HEAVILY. Lucid dreams are slightly less emotional but not clouded. Thats why i think feeling intensely happy when you become lucid kills it, because it regresses back to a more basic, primitive form.Meditation is a way of calming emotions which is why it probably helps. the reality checks, milds, wilds etc are all intellectual decisions which is why we can induce lucidity. It also may have something to do with why trying for a ld is better after 6 hours of sleep. after being asleep and whipped into this world of randomness for 6 hours you calm yourself and become lucid. Maybe lucid dreaming is alot more than we think.
Well the emotional aspect I experience has always been my major (and maybe only) interest in dreams. I would say emotional states in dreams are one of the largest influences on the quality of my waking life. In fact, a large number of my emotions in my waking life started (as far as I can tell) from particularly strong dreams, and I have no precedence for them in my waking life, except that a memory of the emotion always brings back a particular dreamscape in which it originated. These feelings seem to be beyond emotion, or something of a totally different nature. During the course of a day I often reflect upon the feelings I experience, and, most interestingly, these make for the most blissful moments in my (what I consider to be very healthy) life. Often, the emotions will make their presence without any memory or intention of induction. This has happened my whole life, and to this day I still consider them something very special and unique to anything else I experience. A beautiful, strong, emotional dream will often be the most wonderful part of a given month… and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. Many people I know regard their favorite or recurring dreamscapes as an invaluable mental/spiritual/emotional entity in which they can take refuge. Well I could share many more thoughts about this subject… but that will have to wait for another time. I do not believe dreams are pure emotion… no, I think this would be oversimplifying something that seems to be a bit more complex than that. I do believe, however, that we oversimplify the content of dreams when we limit their qualities to simply products of brain states.
Funny, I made this theory up with myself a few months ago. Dreams are always remembered mostly by how they made us feel, not so much the visual imagry.
I actually think all life, including matter, is Emotion. I know thats a wild concept, and I could explain it if someone really wants me to. But it won’t make much sense probably.
I think you’re in the right place to not make much sense, so go on, explain!
