Remember how concerned everyone was when 2000 was approaching? So many people were worried and starting to panic thinking everything was going to crash on us. There were even a few Millenium TV programs. Then the date came and nothing much happened - I think some of us were disappointed. I could picture 2012 being like that.
Yes, I do remember that and like I said every generation thinks the sky is about to fall. However, 2004 and 2005 have experienced some disturbing and disastrous weather activity. Even the most consertive people agree that we are headed into a 20 year period of serious weather patterns. They don’t attribute it to global warming/climate change, but instead say it is just part of the natural cycles that the earth goes through.
Side note: I remember when Regan was president he said that global warming was caused by trees!
Anyway back to my point. We are never going to have warning of a catastrophic event like the tsunami. Nor can we count on our governments to handle the situation if it does happen. New Orleans is a prefect example of that. We can only count on ourselves to survive any disaster (unless you are among the rich and powerful). Although it is unlikely that we will see such a global disaster in our life time, we should never the less prepare ourselves for such an event just in case. Remember the boy scout motto “always be prepared”. I think the boy scout motto is our only defense against such a disaster. If we are prepared we can learn to adapt to and survive natural and man made disasters.
Can someone translate this…
“Solo se que el plutonio masico 239 tiene un periodo de degradacion de 24.360 años. Por lo cual, el material radioactivo que generan las bombas de plutonio, una vez que se dispersa es virtualmente infinito. Si empiezan a tirar de esas, estamos cagados. Hasta entonces…”
sure ill translate it.
“i only know that masic?? plutoniom 239 has a degradation period of 24.360 years , thats the radioactive material from wich the plutonium bombs are created, once it scatters it is virtually infinite. if they start detonating those we are *&$%!@& doomed. till then…”
well i really think that when the 2012 comes it will be a time when the humankind will get aware of the harm he has done and so we will begin to care more about earth and all that stuff. i dont really think it will be doomsday…
If anything happens in 2012, it will be what the prophecy dictates: We will become something more than human. Perhaps we will gradually learn how to use more of our brains than we do. Imagine if we could utilize even 20% of our brains up from the normal 10%. That would be awesome.
Yes, and we have afar more tools for destroying each other better.
I agree, I have since from about the age of 11 been concerned with this, and have involved almost everything in my life to it. But many people and my family included can not understnad this act, and think it is something an insane person would do. But unlike normal people I do have a true conscience and I understand what I do and how it affect almost anything and everything. I hate people who drive or eat meat. I still love them in a human emotional way but I hate their actions as their are selfish and deprive many people through their enjoyment. Sometimes it makes me physically sick.
I think it’s good to be prepared for any kind of disaster, earthquake, floods, fire. Have extra food, first aid materials and emergency lighting available. After seeing War of the Worlds last night I would also stay out of major city areas, lol! Talk about a panic…pack light and head for the hills!
I agree, I have been on many hiking trips and adventures, and from anything like that you need plenty but only in small amounts or the weight is too much. I would much prefer that society and culture collapsed as reignites mystery, rather than static thought and ingrainedness.
As soon as I can leave civilisation, in the sense having paid off my debts and having enough money to buy what I need, I am going to disappear into the wilderness, as if anything serious happened on the planet, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near.
Good advice no doubt and it would likely help in you out in a minor crisis like the NE blackout a few years ago. But, it would not be enough to help in a major disaster like Katrina or the Tsunami.
People should learn how to survive. Matches and water run out and batteries die eventually.
In school they don’t teach kids how to survive (at least they didn’t when I was in highschool). How many people know how to start a fire without matches? How many people know what wild edibles grow in there area? What about building a temporary shelter? I suspect not many. Can you imagine how much easier life would have been if the Katrina victims knew how to purify water, gather food etc!
Anyway I went a bit off topic I guess.
I do believe that there may well be a time of enlightened thinking but that new thinking will come at a price.
BTW- we are in the middle of January and it was 50 degrees today! Not that I am complaining.
I think that natural recorces will run out by the time we can get further in space to find more.
