Has anyone here actally asked a dream what it is for? i have tryed this in alot of lucid dreams but i never get a straight answer. I usally just wake up.
Can every one here tell me if they have done this/wether it is a good idea/ and what happens to you when you try it.
Somehow i think understanding the dream is done best from the inside not using computers to understand them.
Stephen LaBerge has proven that dreams don’t mean anything, although people keep believing otherwise. Ofcourse if you dream about a girl nextdoor it might mean that your in love with her, but with all that “every dream has a message or a meaning” is kind of bs.
I agree that not every dream is telling us something useful or interesting, but some do. Of those, some are just reflections of our daily thoughts and actions, some try to tell us what is good or bad for us, some try to warn us of something etc.
The more we dream and remember our dreams, the more we see if they are in any way related to our waking life.
Well, I haven’t exactly asked a dream what it is for - one thing I clearly remember from my first LD was a bit of advice a dream character gave me, when I asked him if there was something he would like to tell me: “Never compare yourself to others!” This was IMHO one of the best pieces of advice one has ever given me.
As to the question if dreams mean something: sometimes yes in the sense that my dreams have some precognitive elements from time to time (perhaps once or twice a year) and we’re not talking about any major things, only how certain situations may develop or if I shouldn’t trust a specific person - you get the point. But I think this is simply how our subconscious works, since it appears to be an accepted fact that our subconscious picks up even the slightest bit of info and presents the result in our dreams (if it seems to be useful for us), info we otherwise wouldn’t recognize. So therefore I would say that dreams can be meaningful - but they can simply be a form of psycho-hygiene at times. Who knows for sure.
I would stick to principles that seem to work (i.e. asking dream characters if there is something they would like to tell you - but asking the dream as such. Dunno. I read somewhere that it is possible by talking to DCs and thinking about your dream while you are dreaming can open the possibility of dream interpretation while you are dreaming…)
Yes I once asked my spirit guide why we dream and where we are when we dream and he told me that first and only first must I pass his test then he would grant me the the wisdom of dreams.
Checkout www.lucidity.com and search there, it’s there somewhere.
Dreams come us like daily thoughts, except in images. Like in EWLD it said, how one kind of dream can occur: you “think” of a street by night, then suddenly in the REM stage your in the street. Then, you see a black figure in the shadows. Now, theres several chances what may happen but on the book there were 2 options: either nightmare or a normal dream. When you look at the black figure, you may start to fear it, and ofcourse when you except that it’s something to be frightened, it is, so when the black figure comes out of the shadow hes a psychopat who tries to kill you.
The second option is, that when you see the figure and combine it with the street at night, you would think that the figure is your friend and your going to see a movie with him, and so you will go to see a movie in the dream and lot of things may happen after that etc.
Sorry if Im not clear enough, don’t remember it as it is and too tired to search from the book
In EWLD Laberge refers to the sets of ideas as schemas. Then the schemas activate other schemas creating a dream. I just finished reading that section like 2 days ago. The street schema activates a schema for about meeting people on the street and so on. Blah, blah, blah and the dream results.
