As I go through my DJ and DJs of other members I’ve noticed that we always rush in the unknown. We mostly ended in some place that is not familiar to us and if we are lucid we continue from there…
But there are also dreams where we begin to dream in our own house or school or even friends house and we always manage to find a way to get out as quickly as possible… So I was thinking about exploring the places that we know the most and see how much they are different or not from the WL.
I know that I never stopped actually and decided within the dream to see how things actually look like in familiar space and I had a 2 LD where I was intrigued with similarities and differences…
So I would like to hear your experiences with this, have you ever intentionally explore the known world or you just find another reason to get away?! If you had explore it I’m very interested in results…
If anything, the known world intrigues me just as much as the unknown. I find it interesting how well my mind can reconstruct the places I have been to before, and even more exploring the slight differences within. One of my favorite places has actually been the apartments where I live. Always lots of things to do there
What I have noticed in my normal dreams whenever I dream about a place I know, is that the dream tends to recreate buildings a lot bigger than what they are irl. There’s several examples of my old school for instance, like when it was changed into a hideout for a mafia, and I was a part of a team on a mission to kill their leader. Or just 2 days ago, my old school was now the school of Hogwarts…
What’s rather funny as well is that when the dream doesn’t recreate the entire place where I live, it often take parts of it and place it in a random dreamscape. Once I found myself walking out of a concert hall I know irl, noticing that it had been placed on a top of a mountain in a desert xD
I also notice that usually places are a lot bigger (or sometimes smaller) than IRL. My garage always has stuff added and changed, but outside my house is usually normal. The rest of the house is pretty usual… but the garage, for some reason, is always bigger and weird. If I happen to dream about church or something, those auditoriums are bigger as well. Also a bit interesting to go out into my road I live on. Going east it’s pretty normal up to the stoplight, but going west, it’s much shorter (and usually much weirder). If I DO make it away from my driveway, I don’t usually make it past either end of my portion of our road.
Interesting, I’ve experienced same things, even though I had more experience with same thing that Haddock mentioned… I had 2 LD where my bedroom was pretty much the same but the living room was from my friend…
Next time when I’m lucid I’ll try to go too my actual house and see differences, that should be fun…
i like this topic i have noticed that when i dream about school sometimes i find my self in the desk where i used to sit or sometimes i find my self in the grade i was in last year almost as if my mind wants to go back?.. Also about a month ago i had a dream and it took place just a block down from my house and happened around when it was starting to get dark. when i woke up i waited until it was around the time of my dream. I walked down the block or rather scootered down the block since in my dream i was on a scooter. I rode down to exactly where i was in the dream and MAN it felt like i was sucked back into the dream world… it was wierd yet very cool
Hmm, maybe the simplest way of wanting/asking something in the dream is the best way, no need too complicate things too much… This could work… Thanks on the replay!
I absolutely love exploring the dream world versions of my waking world locations. There are so many odd trinkets I find lying about my room, wonderful books I’ve never heard of on my shelves, beautiful music on my dream i-pod.
The dream counterparts of our waking world are some of the most interesting things to explore while lucid, in my opinion. Perspectives are distorted, odd creatures scutter here and there, unsettling atmospheres in the usually ordinary and mundane, mysterious rooms appear everywhere, creating curiosity once awoken. How absolutely delightful!
I once had a lucid dream where a portal to some bizarre dimension was located on the floor of my grandmother’s closet. Seeing as I was sleeping at my grandmothers house at the time of the dream, I just had to go to the closet and check once I woke up. I half expected to see that techni-colored portal, waiting for me explore it.
I find my house in my dreams always has weird subtle differences. Common ones for me are missing/added calendars and mirrors, fireplaces only being half lit, family members looking different, holes in the wall, light switches not working, etc. There’s also fun stuff like being able to go through walls and change my house drastically through the power of suggestion, but those are general lucid abilities .
I think the reason most people want to stay clear of familiar surroundings while lucid is because, at least for me, it will sometimes make them think too much about the normal world, and then wake them up. If I’m in a new unfamiliar environment, it makes me want to explore, forget about the normal world and let my imagination run wild.
