Just another random thought I had that I wanted to hear other people’s experiences with. I’ve noticed that I rarely make eye contact with DCs. In WL I make eye contact when I talk to people, but the habit doesn’t seem to carry into my dreams. Does anyone else experience this?
DC tend to try to avoid my eyes, and when I do make contact, it is pretty intense. I wonder why that is. It’s kind of like staring your own subconscious down, if you think about it.
Eye contact is such an interesting thing in dreams. I notice my DC tend to look kind of fearful when I attempt to make contact. When a DC actually looks into my eyes, it is in a threatening or bizarre manner.
Oddly enough, this is only the case with human DC. Dogs and wolves always stare me down menacingly, and most other dream creatures gaze fearlessly into my eyes.
I suppose it could be because my dreaming mind attempts to put emotion into a human DC, a personality, an ego; and you can tell a lot about a person from their eyes. However, the dreaming mind could have trouble putting personality behind the eyes, which tends to make human DC avoid eye contact.
Meanwhile, animal DC are not supposed to have emotion in a human sense, so there is no need for the mind to attempt the projection of emotion and personality through the eyes, causing them to give me a fierce look.
I actually make eye contact frequently and my DC’s never seem to act strangely over it, whether in an LD or ND. Perhaps part of it is our expectations of what a DC is, or the way we approach them in the dream that makes the difference.
I tend to make eye contact in my dreams whenever I meet anyone there, and nothing too interesting happens. Once, however, when I made eye contact, the DC turned into somebody else.
If you believe they don’t want to make eye contact or fear to do so, then it will be so.
