The other night I had a dream in which I kind of decided what I wanted to dream about…so I dreamed up a little snake and played with it (I do like snakes but I don’t think that’s what I would do in an LD…). Then this really hot/funny guy started talking to me so I was like “Ok forget the snake, I want the rest of the dream to be about this guy!” And so the rest of the dream was about me hanging out with that guy haha. I’m not sure if I was actually lucid during that dream because I wasn’t surprised that I could control things…while I’m pretty sure in true LD’s the dreamer knows that controlling the dream isn’t usual… lol. Could anyone help me figure this out please?
On the contrary, in an LD controlling the dream is perfectly normal. That would be the point . What you’re describing sounds like low lucidity to me. An FLD is more of when you have the same powers of a lucid dream, but you don’t quite know it’s a dream. In the end it can be very hard to distinguish the two, especially since you might even know it’s all fake in an FLD. The best advice I’ve ever heard on this is simple: if you were aware of the fact that it was a dream, you were most likely lucid, albeit with low lucidity.
thanks!
Actually, it could be both.
A FLD is when you think about lucid dreaming, and think you are lucid, but you really aren’t.
A dream with low lucidity is a dream where you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming, but you actually are not in control and you kinda go with the dream.
It really could be both…
Hmmm… I would disagree. In an FLD you aren’t aware of the dreamstate at all, let alone being lucid. Here’s the definition straight from the LD4all knowledgebase:
FLD = False Lucid Dream - you are NOT realizing that you’re dreaming but still you act like a lucid dreamer and do everything you want to do - but you don’t have the click you are doing all these things because you are dreaming.
Hmm I said that.
I know, a lucid dream is every dream in which you know you are dreaming.Even if it’s for a second.
I said where you think you are lucid…I meant where you act like you are lucid, and/or dream of lucid dreaming, without being lucid.
It’s just a misunderstanding
Fair enough
wow thanks for all the replies… but I think what I’m gonna say next will make this even more confusing…
See, I didn’t really have that moment of “click” when I realized I was dreaming. It was kind of like my dream-self knew it was in a dream but I didn’t actually know about it…it’s very confusing because I think of my dream-self as a completely separate being than myself. It might have just been a dream about lucid dreaming? I have no idea lol
Well, I have had an instance of dreaming about dreaming. In the end, whether it is low lucidity or an FLD, the point is you are on the right track. When you go to bed, go with the intention of recognizing this state and taking advantage of it. it won’t be long before you learn to turn these instances into full blown LD’s.
Why do you think there is separation between the dream self and the real self? It all takes place in the same mind, after all. Plus, there are a lot of people who managed to bridge the gap between the two ways of thinking, and now can behave in dreams in the same way they do IWL.
When you’ll realize the dream self is indeed a part of you, you’ll find it a lot easier to recognize the dreams for what they are, and get lucid in them from the realization.
well i’ve always thought of my dream-self as a separate being because it acts in ways that i myself never would…usually doing very stupid things that i mentally facepalm myself for when i wake up . also, in many of my dreams i simply am not myself, rather a completely other character (either from the outside world or my own imagination) so i always think of my dream-self as a separate person because i’m either not myself at all or some mentally distorted version of myself. haha…
i really do want to LD though and have had a few short LD’s in the past, but i agree that it would probably be a lot easier if i could somehow bridged that gap… hmmm
I had 2 dreams in the same night exactly like this! It’s so weird.
Wait, when you’re trying to make your dream more vivid. Someone said that the best way to do that (besides the pill) is to fall backwards. I’m scared that when i fall backwards i will panic and wake up. Should I try falling backwards?
